Towards an integration of visual comfort and lighting impression: A field study within higher educational buildings

Zhe Kong et al.

Summary: Daylighting environments in higher educational buildings have a significant impact on students' vision health and learning efficiency. This study found that general daylighting predictors perform similarly to customized predictors in subjective assessments. The recommended predictors for effectively predicting individual perceptions of daylight sufficiency, desired lighting level adjustments, and degrees of daylighting stimulation are horizontal illuminance, vertical illuminance, mean luminance of an entire scene, and mean luminance of the horizontal 40 band.

Research on functional space of community-based medical-nursing combined facilities for the aged in small cities

Xiaoming Su et al.

Summary: The aging population in China is accelerating, but there is a lack of research on the aged care and medical needs of older people in the community. Findings suggest a high demand for home care models, day care, and medical services among seniors, highlighting the importance of providing quality healthcare services and equipment for the elderly in the community.

The Interior Experience of Architecture: An Emotional Connection between Space and the Body

Keunhye Lee

Summary: This paper provides a phenomenological understanding of interior space and explores the emotional connection between space and experience. It focuses on the significant aspects of interior space and how to improve the quality of spatial and emotional experience. The author argues that interior experience can be developed by stimulating a lived body, emphasizing materiality, and generating emotional connection. Through representative case studies, the paper explores how spatial experience uses materiality to stimulate sensory effects and how the multi-sensory space connects with emotional experience. The integration of body and materiality is found to be fundamental in enriching spatial experience.

Ramon Martinez-Canino et al.

Summary: EEGLAB is the leading open-source software for processing EEG data, while NSG is a portal allowing users to run neuroscience-related software on high-performance computing resources. The nsgportal plug-in interfaces EEGLAB with NSG, providing a flexible GUI for job submission, interaction, and result retrieval. This integration allows for largely automated functions and workflows with optional NSG job submission and processing.

Wearable Devices Suitable for Monitoring Twenty Four Hour Heart Rate Variability in Military Populations

Katrina Hinde et al.

Summary: Heart rate variability (HRV) measurements provide insights into the autonomic nervous system and sympathetic activity balance. High HRV indicates good adaptability, while low HRV may signal fatigue, overtraining, or health issues. The Polar H10 stands out as the most accurate wearable device currently available, although it requires additional cost for data extraction without using an app.

Investigation of students? short-term memory performance and thermal sensation with heart rate variability under different environments in summer

Yalong Yang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of temperature and CCT on cognitive performance and thermal sensation. It found that short-term memory performance was minimally affected by slight changes in temperature and CCT, and that CCT had a weaker impact on thermal sensation compared to temperature effects. Additionally, when temperature remained constant and there was a CCT difference of 3000 K, significant differences in thermal sensation were observed.

Diving Responses in Experienced Rebreather Divers: Short-Term Heart Rate Variability in Cold Water Diving

Richard V. Lundell et al.

Summary: Our study suggests that the trigeminocardiac part of the diving reflex leads to strong initial PNS activation at the beginning of the dive, but the reaction diminishes quickly. Cold water appears to be the primary factor promoting PNS activity, rather than pressure. Additionally, our findings indicate a simultaneous increase in both SNS and PNS branches, which is associated with a higher risk of arrhythmia. Therefore, we recommend a brief adaptation phase before engaging in physical activity in cold-water diving.
