mTOR Signaling in the Regulation of CD4+T Cell Subsets in Periodontal Diseases

Qian Jiang et al.

Summary: Periodontal disease is caused by microbial infection, leading to inflammation mediated by CD4(+) T cells through cytokine secretion and osteoclastogenetic activity. In addition to subsets of helper T cells, regulatory T cells and Th17 cells also play a role in the pathogenesis of periodontal diseases. mTOR signaling has a significant impact on the differentiation, activation, and commitment of helper T cells.

Evaluation of NLRP3 and IL-18 Levels after Periodontal Therapy

Shahrzad Shahbeik et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effect of periodontal treatment on IL-18 and NLRP3 concentrations in patients with chronic periodontitis. The results showed a significant association between NLRP3 level and PD and CAL, with a significant decrease observed in NLRP3 level after each treatment phase. However, there was no significant relationship between IL-18 and clinical parameters.

Probiotic Alternative to Chlorhexidine in Periodontal Therapy: Evaluation of Clinical and Microbiological Parameters

Andrea Butera et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the use of two new formulations (toothpaste and chewing-gum) as support for periodontitis treatment. While probiotics showed benefits on certain clinical indexes and specific periodontopathogens, further research is needed to explore the relationship between probiotic colonization and improvement in clinical parameters.

Frailty, aging, and periodontal disease: Basic biologic considerations

Daniel Clark et al.

Summary: Aging is associated with the development of diseases, and conditions like frailty and periodontal disease are common in older populations. Both frailty and periodontal disease share risk factors and may have a bidirectional relationship. Investigating changes in immune cells that regulate inflammation may provide insights for the improved management of these age-related conditions.
