Mechanical and Microstructural Properties of Composite Mortars with Lime, Silica Fume and Rice Husk Ash

Ramalingam Malathy et al.

Summary: A mixture of hydraulic lime and pozzolanic material can be used as a binder to reduce the environmental impact of cement production. The introduction of pozzolans in the lime mortar improves its strength and microstructural properties. Lime composite mortars achieve higher compressive strength and exhibit well-developed microstructures compared to pure lime mortar.

Rheological properties of concrete with manufactured sand: A multi-level prediction

Qiang Ren et al.

Summary: This study predicts the rheological properties of concrete with irregular aggregate using a multi-level biphase assumption. The proposed models demonstrate power-law relationships between relative viscosity, relative yield stress, and relative thickness of suspending media. The accuracy and robustness of the models are proven for mixtures with various particle shapes and size distributions of manufactured sand and coarse aggregate. The predicted influences of particle shapes on the rheological properties can be represented by their effects on relative paste film thickness and relative mortar film thickness. The proposed multi-level prediction lays the foundation for mix proportioning of concrete with irregular aggregate based on specified rheological requirements.

An Experimental Investigation on the Effects of Limestone Fines in Manufactured Sands on the Performance of Magnesia Ammonium Phosphate Mortar

Wenting Mao et al.

Summary: This study investigated the use of limestone sands as an alternative to quartz sands in the preparation of MAPC mortar. It was found that an increased content of limestone fines resulted in a decrease in the mechanical strength of the MAPC mortar. Effective defoaming techniques were identified as crucial for the utilization of limestone sands in high-performance MAPC mortar preparation.

Comparative Polyphenol Composition, Antioxidant and Anticorrosion Properties in Various Parts of Panax ginseng Extracted in Different Solvents

Ramalingam Malathy et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the antioxidant and anticorrosion activities of ginseng prepared using five different solvents, with the methanolic fruit extract showing comparably good activity. Furthermore, the study identified the presence of phenolic components through UHPLC, such as chlorogenic acid, gentisic acid, and rutin in higher amounts in the fruit extract, while m-coumaric acid and p-coumaric acid were significant in the leaf extract. Additionally, the anti-corrosive property of the fruit extract using methanol as a solvent was found to have 96% corrosion inhibition efficiency against 1 M HCl medium.

Flexural toughness of sustainable ECC with high-volume substitution of cement and silica sand

Kazim Turk et al.

Summary: The study found that limestone filler did not significantly affect the flexural toughness of ECC, while the flexural toughness decreased with increasing fly ash content. ECC with high fly ash content and no limestone filler demonstrated higher ductility at all curing ages.

Experimental study on silica sand using bottom ash on metal casting

E. Gopinath

Summary: The disposal of bottom ash and fly ash is a major problem in industries, leading to environmental pollution and hazardous effects on human beings. These wastes are being replaced or reclaimed for other economical applications, such as manufacturing castings using bottom ash with different binders, where castings prepared with sodium silicate binder have higher impact strength and hardness values.
