Stratigraphic and geodynamic characterization of Jurassic-Cretaceous red beds on the Msemrir-Errachidia E-W transect (central High Atlas, Morocco)

Mohamed El Ouali et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the red detrital formations in the Central and Eastern High Atlas of Morocco, with significant lithological variations observed between the eastern and western parts. While the eastern part consists of three lithostratigraphic formations, the western part is mainly characterized by the sandstone-rich Guettioua Formation. The differences in facies and thickness are largely attributed to the geodynamic evolution of the Central High Atlas, tectonics, salt diapirism events, and local subsidence rates.

Latest early Toarcian and middle Toarcian brachiopods (Rhynchonellida) from the Central Unit of the South Riffian Ridges (northern Morocco)

Mohamed Benzaggagh

Summary: The Uppermost lower Toarcian and middle Toarcian stratigraphic succession in the Central Unit of the South Riffian Ridges in Morocco are rich in benthic macrofauna, particularly brachiopod species. One abundant species, H. batalleri, is distinguished by the number of ribs on the dorsal median fold and has five individual groups representing different ontogenic stages. These species are common to various marginal basins of the western Tethys Ocean.
