Summary: Currently, 40% of food produced in the U.S. is wasted, causing resource loss, economic costs, decreased food security, and significant climate and ecological impacts. However, there are ways to leverage this unwanted food towards sustainable development, such as diverting surplus to food-insecure communities, recycling carbon and nutrients into agriculture, and converting food waste into bioenergy. This transformation requires the co-evolution of physical infrastructure systems and human infrastructure.

Summary: A profound transformation is needed in China's energy system to achieve carbon neutrality. The study shows that if emissions peak in 2025, achieving carbon neutrality would require increases in electrification rate, renewable energy usage, solar and wind power, energy storage usage, and negative emissions, as well as a reduction in local air pollutants. The timing of emission peak and carbon budget have significant impacts on decarbonization pathways, technology choices, and transition costs. Early peaking can reduce welfare losses and dependency on carbon removal technologies. Technological breakthroughs, changes in production and consumption patterns, and policy enhancements are urgently needed to achieve carbon neutrality.

Summary: The massive rise in the world's average temperature has led to significant economic and environmental issues. Carbon pricing is considered a sustainable instrument in reducing negative environmental effects associated with global carbon emissions. This study examines the role of emissions cap trading, foreign direct investment, economic growth, renewable energy demand, and trade openness in reducing carbon emissions. The results show that emissions cap trading can lower carbon emissions in the long run but increase them in the short run. Inbound FDI has different effects on pollution in the long and short term. Per capita income and renewable energy demand have positive impacts on reducing carbon emissions, while trade openness affects carbon emissions differently depending on the time frame.
