Experiments in Surface Gravity-Capillary Wave Turbulence

Eric Falcon et al.

Summary: In the past decade, there has been a significant increase in wave turbulence studies, particularly in the field of water waves. The theoretical modeling of ocean waves, which has driven the development of weak turbulence theory, has been found to be too idealized to capture experimental observations. Laboratory observations have revealed that the waves studied are actually gravity-capillary waves, as opposed to ocean waves. This richer physics has led to various physical effects beyond the theoretical framework, especially in the gravity-capillary crossover region.

Transfer of the Substance of a Colored Drop in a Liquid Layer with Travelling Plane Gravity-Capillary Waves

Yu D. Chashechkin

Summary: The evolution of the distribution pattern of an ink droplet freely falling on a wavy liquid surface was traced using video-recording methods. The droplet spreads in the liquid, forming a cavity, crown, and splash, during the phase of primary contact and coalescence. Subsequently, the colored liquid divides into three independently moving formations: a finely structured contact area, a submerged vortex ring, and a near-surface vortex dipole. The dye is distributed in the form of thin fibers for a long time until erosion occurs due to residual flows and molecular diffusion processes.

Flow Field around a Vertical Cylinder in Presence of Long Waves: An Experimental Study

Rosangela Basile et al.

Summary: This study experimentally investigated the propagation of long waves caused by storm surges or river floods in the presence of a bottom-mounted rigid emergent cylinder. The results indicate that these long waves have significant impacts on the structure and the formation of turbulent eddies.

Conventional Partial and Complete Solutions of the Fundamental Equations of Fluid Mechanics in the Problem of Periodic Internal Waves with Accompanying Ligaments Generation

Yuli D. Chashechkin

Summary: This study investigates the generation of beams of periodic internal waves in a viscous, exponentially stratified fluid by a band oscillating along an inclined plane using the methods of the theory of singular perturbations in linear and weakly nonlinear approximations. The analysis shows direct interactions between waves and ligaments, resulting in the generation of new harmonics of internal waves. In addition, nonlinear interacting ligaments can also generate periodic waves, with amplitudes estimated to be observable under laboratory conditions.

Drop Decay into Individual Fibers at the Boundary of the Contact Area with a Target Fluid

Yu. D. Chashechkin et al.

Summary: Research shows that a drop freely falling into water near the confluence line disintegrates into fibers, accompanied by the formation of annular capillary waves and thin radial jets. In the process of splash formation, the droplet matter forms linear and reticulated structures which gradually spread out.

Strong Interacting Internal Waves in Rotating Ocean: Novel Fractional Approach

Pundikala Veeresha et al.

Summary: The study analyzes the nature of the Gardner-Ostrovsky equation and its consequences using the q-homotopy analysis transform technique. The importance of the fractional operator in generalizing models associated with kernel singular is illustrated. By considering the Caputo-Fabrizio (CF) fractional operator framework, the existence and uniqueness of solutions are presented using fixed-point theorem and Banach space. The study confirms the reliability and systematic approach of the procedure in investigating consequences related to nonlinear models of both integer and fractional order.
