Proximity to endocrine-disrupting pesticides and risk of testicular germ cell tumors (TGCT) among adolescents: A population-based case-control study in California

Summary: The incidence of testicular germ cell tumors (TGCT) is increasing in the United States, particularly among Latinos, and prenatal exposure to acephate and malathion was associated with TGCT risk among Latinos while carbaryl was associated with TGCT risk among non-Latinos in California. These findings suggest a potential link between exposure to these pesticides and the rise in TGCT risk among Latinos.

Domestic use of pesticides during early periods of development and risk of testicular germ cell tumors in adulthood: a French nationwide case-control study

Summary: Testicular germ cell tumours (TGCT) are the most common cancer in young men in developed countries, and their incidence has doubled globally over the past 40 years. This study in France found a positive association between domestic use of pesticides, particularly fungicides, during early development and the risk of adult TGCT and non-seminoma subtypes.

Impaired semen quality, an increase of sperm morphological defects and DNA fragmentation associated with environmental pollution in urban population of young men from Western Siberia, Russia

Summary: This study investigated the impact of industrial pollution on sperm morphogenesis and DNA fragmentation in men from Western Siberia. It found that men living in areas with increased environmental pollution had lower sperm count and motility, higher DNA fragmentation, poor sperm morphology, and increased incidence of morphological defects. The study also showed regional differences in the relationships between sperm morphology, count, and DNA fragmentation, emphasizing the importance of studying sperm morphology patterns in men from different regions.

PDE11A gene polymorphism in testicular cancer: sperm parameters and hormonal profile

Summary: The study revealed that TGCT patients have lower testosterone levels, higher gonadotropins levels, and certain PDE11A polymorphisms are associated with a lower risk of testicular tumour and a higher total sperm count. This suggests a complex molecular mechanism involving PDE11A in controlling testicular gene expression and susceptibility to testicular cancer.

Further long-term studies involving a wide range of subjects are necessary to identify damaging compounds and remove them from the environment.
