Strength evaluation of soil stabilized with nano silica- cement mixes as road construction material

Prasanna P. Kulkarni et al.

Summary: The experimental study on treating silty sand with colloidal nano silica and cement revealed that increasing cement content significantly improved the mechanical properties of soil, with the best results seen in NS-40 and 6% cement treatment. Soaked CBR values and 7-days UCS results were significantly enhanced.

Effects of deep soil mixing on existing shield tunnels in soft soil ground

Huangsong Pan et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of deep soil mixing (DSM) construction on existing shield tunnels and the role of reasonable installation parameters in mitigating the impact. Field tests and measurements were conducted in Suzhou to determine the appropriate installation parameters of DSM and to analyze the soil movement behind soil mixing walls (SMWs) during multirow DSM installation. The results show that DSM columns installed at a higher speed and a lower water-cement ratio increase the soil movement. It is recommended to install DSM at a lower speed and a higher water-cement ratio to reduce the movement of shield tunnels. The construction of DSM beside the shield tunnels primarily causes displacement of the tunnel lining and the construction of DSM above the tunnels causes uplift. By using reasonable installation parameters and protecting the tunnels with SMWs, the deformation of the shield tunnels caused by DSM construction can be effectively controlled within acceptable limits.

Determination of the ultimate consolidation settlement of jack-up spudcan footings embedded in clays

Jiang Tao Yi et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the consolidation settlement of spudcan footings on jack-up platforms for long-term services. It explores the correlation between excess pore pressure dissipation and settlement development, and evaluates the prediction performances of two observational methods through numerical parametric investigation. Recommendations for selecting appropriate prediction approaches and establishing prediction error limits are provided for field monitoring of spudcan settlement.

Correlation between Ground Motion Parameters and Displacement Demands of Mid-Rise RC Buildings on Soft Soils Considering Soil-Structure-Interaction

Muhammet Kamal et al.

Summary: This study investigates the correlation between ground motion parameters and displacement demands of mid-rise RC frame buildings on soft soils, proposing new combined multiple ground motion parameter equations to better reflect the damage potential. The results show that velocity related parameters exhibit a strong correlation with inelastic displacement demands, with Housner Intensity being the leading parameter. The use of combined multiple parameters can effectively determine seismic damages and improve scatter by at least 24% compared to using a single parameter.
