Green and facile synthesis of iron-doped biomass carbon dots as a dual-signal colorimetric and fluorometric probe for the detection of ascorbic acid

Pengfei Fan et al.

Summary: In this study, iron-doped carbon dots were synthesized using a green method and demonstrated dual-signal detection of ascorbic acid through colorimetric and fluorometric assays. The presence of iron-doped carbon dots enabled the oxidation of TMB and subsequent reduction by ascorbic acid, leading to a reversible fluorescence response. The method showed promising application prospects in accurate detection of ascorbic acid with complementary signals to improve reliability.

Summary: Due to their simplicity, speed, and portability, point-of-care testing (POCT) is crucial for biochemical analysis in resource-limited environments. However, a single-signal readout is unable to accurately quantitate analysis due to interference from environmental factors. Therefore, a convenient multimodal assay method based on the concept of POCT detection is urgently desired.

Ultrasensitive fluorescence detection of bismuth ion (III) in plasma, urine and medicines by a terbium chelate probe

Yang Chen et al.

Summary: A novel and ultra-sensitive probe for Bi3+ ions based on terbium chelate fluorescence was developed, with a detection limit of 0.1 pM in aqueous solution and 1 pM in urine and plasma. The probe shows high sensitivity and can be used for trace Bi3+ detection in medicine, urine, and plasma samples. Additionally, the probe's long fluorescence lifetime allows for efficient elimination of nonspecific fluorescence, making it advantageous for biological sample analysis.

Summary: Graphene nanobud (GNBs) were utilized for the sensitive detection of micromolar concentration of Ce3+ via chelation-induced fluorescence excimer formation (CHEF). The interaction of GNB with Ce3+ was confirmed to have a binding stoichiometry of 1:1, with potential applications in bioimaging and cytotoxicity testing in living cell lines. Confocal Raman microscopy images demonstrated the practicability of GNBs in biological systems.
