PROBLEMS OF COGNITIVE STRATEGIES AND EMOTIONAL REGULATION OF TEACHERS IN MODERN EDUCATION

Rashid Jabbarov et al.

Summary: This article examines the manifestations of cognitive strategies and emotional regulation among teachers. The study involves 64 teachers with different academic backgrounds and teaching at different faculties. The findings suggest that age plays a role in shaping cognitive strategies and emotional self-regulation of teachers. Cognitive strategies and expressive suppression of emotions are associated with different qualities of teachers. Adequate self-regulation of emotion is more significantly related to cognitive strategy than expressive suppression. The study also reveals correlations between cognitive reappraisal and personality traits, as well as emotional intelligence and resilience among teachers.

Community-level fishery measures and individual fishers: Comparing primary and secondary data for the US West Coast

Karma Norman et al.

Summary: Based on a survey of West Coast fishing vessel owners, we investigated the connections between community-level factors and individual fishers' dependence on fishing, as well as their fishery-related social capital and identity. We found that communities with high fishing reliance had higher levels of fishing social capital and identity, while communities with high fishing engagement did not. Additionally, higher social vulnerability measures for the community were associated with higher measures of fishery-related social capital and individual reliance on fishing income.

Fine-scale assessment of inequities in inland flood vulnerability

Mathis L. Messager et al.

Summary: River floods disrupt millions of lives globally every year, with disparities in flood vulnerability poorly quantified. A study in Washington State found that 16% of Latinx residents live in flood zones, double their proportion in the overall population. Results show that using finer-grain data and improved flood hazard maps leads to starker estimates of racial/ethnic inequities in flood vulnerability.

The potential impact of a shifting Pacific sardine distribution on US West Coast landings

James A. Smith et al.

Summary: A simulation was conducted to project the changes in fishery landings of the northern subpopulation of Pacific sardine, showing a northward shift in landings with declines at southern ports and increases or stability at northern ports. However, total sardine landings were found to be uncertain. The study also identified key constraints on future landings that can be targeted for further assessment.

Climate risk to European fisheries and coastal communities

Mark R. Payne et al.

Summary: The majority of the global human population resides in coastal regions, making climate risk analysis crucial for supporting adaptation. A study on the European fisheries sector identified the most at-risk fishing fleets and coastal regions. Different countries face diverse challenges posed by climate change, thus requiring tailored climate adaptation measures.

A Dynamically Downscaled Ensemble of Future Projections for the California Current System

Mercedes Pozo Buil et al.

Summary: The study downscales three Earth System Models (ESMs) to produce climate projections for the California Current System (CCS) under high emission scenario, finding an intensification of upwelling winds, overall surface warming, nitrate enrichment, and dissolved oxygen decrease. While all models agree on future changes in offshore waters, differences arise in coastal regions, resulting in varied responses of biogeochemical variables. Downscaled models reflect trends in ESMs, but differ more for biogeochemical than physical variables.

Not All Those Who Wander Are Lost - Responses of Fishers Communities to Shifts in the Distribution and Abundance of Fish '

Eva A. Papaioannou et al.

Summary: As species respond to warming water temperatures, fishers are facing choices regarding their harvest strategies. The responses observed among fishing communities in the Northeast United States include shifting fishing grounds, changing target species, and relocating landing ports. The study finds that while some communities follow fish to new grounds, a more common response is to shift target species, although regulations and markets often limit flexibility in taking advantage of different species mixes.
