Assessing the Impact of Integrated Community-Based Management of Severe Wasting Programs in Conflict-Stricken South Sudan: A Multi-Dimensional Approach to Scalability of Nutrition Emergency Response Programs

Andre M. N. Renzaho et al.

Summary: Community-based management of severe wasting (CMSW) programs in South Sudan have shown strong coordination and harmonized multi-agency and multidisciplinary approach in providing timely and quality care. Challenges exist in institutionalization and ownership due to weak health system, fragile health budget relying on external assistance, and limited opportunities for competency-based learning and knowledge transfer. Despite these challenges, the programs have managed to keep key performance indicators meeting or exceeding the Humanitarian Charter and Minimum Standards in Humanitarian Response, suggesting the possibility of implementing robust and resilient CMSW programs in conflict environments.

Summary: Traditional qualitative research methods such as interviews are often prioritized over qualitative surveys, which have been underutilized and lack methodological discussion. By sharing experiences of developing online surveys for qualitative research, this study aims to challenge preconceptions and highlight the benefits of qualitative surveys for researchers and participants.
