Galaxy Zoo DECaLS: Detailed visual morphology measurements from volunteers and deep learning for 314 000 galaxies

Mike Walmsley et al.

Summary: This study introduces Galaxy Zoo DECaLS, which provides detailed visual morphological classifications for galaxies within the SDSS DR8 footprint. Using deeper DECaLS images, volunteers were able to identify additional features such as spiral arms, weak bars, and tidal features that were previously unseen in SDSS imaging. The classifications from the volunteers were used to train Bayesian convolutional neural networks, resulting in accurate predictions of detailed morphology for all 314,000 galaxies.

Dark Energy Survey Year 3 results: Cosmological constraints from galaxy clustering and weak lensing

T. M. C. Abbott et al.

Summary: This study presents cosmology results from large-scale structure using imaging data from the Dark Energy Survey. The analysis combines three two-point correlation functions and provides consistent cosmological constraints. These results are significant for improving our understanding of cosmology.

Towards testing the theory of gravity with DESI: summary statistics, model predictions and future simulation requirements

Shadab Alam et al.

Summary: This paper studies the predictions of two modified gravity models beyond linear redshift distortions using N-body simulations and mock galaxy catalogs, finding promising power for testing GR. A major challenge for the future is to create realistic mock galaxy catalogs for both GR and alternative models to fully utilize the statistic power of the DESI survey and understand the impact of systematic effects.

Optimal computation of anisotropic galaxy three point correlation function multipoles using 2DFFTLOG formalism

Obinna Umeh

Summary: This study addresses the challenges of computational estimation and high-dimensionality when using the anisotropic three-point correlation function for cosmological parameter inference. By utilizing multipole decompositions to reduce dimensionality, the full expression for the multipole moments and covariance matrix of the anisotropic 3PCF can be derived effectively. Optimal computation of multipole moments and their covariance is demonstrated using the 2D FFTLog formalism, involving integrals over product terms with bispectrum, power spectra, and spherical Bessel functions.

The Dark Energy Survey Data Release 2

T. M. C. Abbott et al.

Summary: The second public data release of the Dark Energy Survey, DES DR2, includes reduced single-epoch and coadded images, a source catalog and associated data products assembled from 6 years of DES science operations. Covering approximately 5000 deg(2) of the southern Galactic cap in five broad photometric bands, DES DR2 offers photometric uniformity and accuracy, with a median delivered point-spread function FWHM and internal astrometric precision. The dataset includes data from 691 million distinct astronomical objects accessible through various interfaces, making it the largest photometric data set to date at the achieved depth and photometric precision.

Probing gravity with redshift-space distortions: Effects of tracer bias and sample selection

Jorge Enrique Garcia-Farieta et al.

Summary: Researchers investigate clustering properties of dark matter halos and galaxies, revealing noticeable MG signals in the redshift-space 2PCF and clustering wedges. However, the statistical significance of these signals largely diminishes due to a strong degeneracy between MG-enhanced clustering and modified tracer bias. To address this, clustering ratios less dependent on bias are considered.

Completed SDSS-IV extended Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey: Cosmological implications from two decades of spectroscopic surveys at the Apache Point Observatory

Shadab Alam et al.

Summary: Based on the final measurements of clustering using galaxies, quasars, and Ly alpha forests from the SDSS lineage, this study provides comprehensive cosmological implications. The BAO data alone can rule out dark-energy-free models, and when combined with other measurements, significant improvements are made on constraining cosmological parameters within the ΛCDM model. The results indicate that various parameter extensions remain consistent with a ΛCDM model in a combined analysis, showing precision changes of less than 0.6% in key parameters.

Dark Energy Survey Year 3 results: Optimizing the lens sample in a combined galaxy clustering and galaxy-galaxy lensing analysis

A. Porredon et al.

Summary: By optimizing the selection of lens galaxy samples and utilizing data from the Dark Energy Survey (DES) Year 3, significant improvements in cosmological constraints can be achieved when combining galaxy clustering and galaxy-galaxy lensing. With the wCDM and ACDM models, the optimal selection leads to enhancements of 20% to 40% in constraint parameters compared to traditional samples. For the flux-limited sample, further gains in constraint effectiveness can be obtained by increasing the number of tomographic bins or including bin cross-correlations.
