Synthesis and Reactivity of Heterobimetallic Co-PAlP Pincer Complexes

Summary: A cobalt complex ligated with a PAlP pincer ligand was synthesized and the Lewis acidity of the aluminum atom on the cobalt complex was confirmed by coordination with 4-dimethylaminopyridine (DMAP). Reactions of the cobalt complex with H2O, EtOH, i-PrOH, and t-BuOH efficiently yielded the corresponding cobalt hydride complexes.

Reductive C-C Coupling from Molecular Au(I) Hydrocarbyl Complexes: A Mechanistic Study

Summary: Organometallic gold complexes are used as catalyst precursors in C-C bond formation reactions. This study investigates C-C coupling to form ethane from various phosphine-ligated gem-digold(I) methyl complexes, showing that the rate of ethane formation increases with decreasing steric bulk of the phosphine substituent.

Cooperative Bond Activation and Facile Intramolecular Aryl Transfer of Nickel-Aluminum Pincer-type Complexes

Summary: Complexes of pincer-type nickel-aluminum were synthesized and it was found that cooperative bond cleavage occurred mediated by the two-site Ni-Al unit. This included oxidative addition, H-2 activation, and adjacent C-H bond activation. The reversible intramolecular transfer of the mesityl ring from Al to Ni was noted, resembling a transmetalation step in catalysis. This research represents the first example of a first-row transition metal-aluminyl pincer complex.

Selective C-O Bond Reduction and Borylation of Aryl Ethers Catalyzed by a Rhodium-Aluminum Heterobimetallic Complex

Summary: In this study, we reported a novel rhodium catalyst with X-type PAlP pincer ligand for catalytic reduction of a C-O bond and borylation. The reaction mechanism was revealed through characterization of reaction intermediate and deuterium-labeling experiments. This catalytic system demonstrated steric-hindrance-dependent chemoselectivity, providing a new strategy for selective C-O bond activation through heterobimetallic catalysis.

C2-Selective silylation of pyridines by a rhodium-aluminum complex

Summary: A C2-selective mono-silylation of various pyridines has been developed using a Rh-Al complex, where the site- and mono-selectivity are controlled by the coordination of pyridine to the Lewis-acidic Al center. A reaction mechanism is proposed based on the isolation of a (2-pyridyl)silylrhodium intermediate from several mechanistic studies.

Summary: The experimental results showed that the alane/tris(phospine) ligand coordinates to silver and aluminum in slightly different ways, with all phosphines coordinating to the silver center in the case of AgOTf, while only a part of them coordinating to aluminum in the case of Ag[HCB11Cl11].
