Development and Evaluation of 3D-Printed Cardiovascular Phantoms for Interventional Planning and Training

Maximilian Grab et al.

Summary: This study developed a manufacturing process for patient-specific 3D-printed models for cardiovascular interventions. Different materials were compared for mechanical characteristics and the printed models showed high resolution and suitability for clinical imaging techniques.

The Influence of 3D Printed Aortic Models on the Evolution of Physician Modified Stent Grafts for the Urgent Treatment of Thoraco-abdominal and Pararenal Aortic Pathologies

Daniela Branzan et al.

Summary: This study aimed to describe the outcomes of high risk patients with symptomatic or contained rupture of pararenal and thoraco-abdominal aortic aneurysms who underwent fenestrated endovascular aneurysm repair using physician modified stent grafts planned with 3D image analysis software and 3D printed aortic models. The results showed that this approach was feasible and safe, with high success rates and low complication rates.

3-dimensional printing for the diagnosis of left ventricular outflow tract obstruction after mitral valve replacement

Ralf Sodian et al.

Summary: The study evaluates the use of 3D models and prints in assisting physicians with complex cases, focusing on an intricate LVOTO example. The physical models generated enable visualization of the condition, aiding in accurate diagnosis, treatment planning, and surgical decision-making process. The benefits of 3D printing technologies are evident in enhancing surgical outcomes and patient care.

Systematic review of three-dimensional printing for simulation training of interventional radiology trainees

Chase Tenewitz et al.

Summary: The limited literature available supports the use of three-dimensional printing as a teaching tool in interventional radiology, although current applications are varied and lack standardized best practices. Further research documenting the benefits of 3D printed models for IR simulation has the potential to expand within the field.
