Chemistry and physics of dopants embedded in helium droplets

Simon Albertini et al.

Summary: This review summarizes the development of experimental techniques and methods for studying helium droplets, which provide an ideal environment for growing complexes and clusters under conditions that mimic cold and dense regions of the interstellar medium. Recent results enabled by these techniques have shed light on barrierless reactions triggered by radicals or ions at sub-Kelvin temperatures.

Electronic Spectroscopy of Anthracene Cations and Protonated Anthracene in the Search for Carriers of Diffuse Interstellar Bands

Miriam Meyer et al.

Summary: The absorption spectra of cold anthracene cations and protonated anthracene were recorded using the helium-tagging technique, allowing precise band positions of the molecular ions in the gas phase to be obtained. The most intense bands of anthracene suitable for astrophysical detection showed slight shifts in their positions, attributed to temperature effects. No coincidence of absorption bands of anthracene cations in astrophysical observational spectra was found.

Complexes with Atomic Gold Ions: Efficient Bis-Ligand Formation

Felix Duensing et al.

Summary: Atomic gold complexes with various ligands were formed by passing helium nanodroplets through cells containing gold vapor and another dopant. The abundance distribution of AuLn+ versus size n shows a significant enhancement at n = 2. Gold enhances ionization-induced intramolecular fragmentation, while hydrogen weakens it compared to pure hydrogen ions.
