Ultrahigh Pt-Mass-Activity Hydrogen Evolution Catalyst Electrodeposited from Bulk Pt

Luan Liu et al.

Summary: This study reports on a three-component heterostructured hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) catalyst with ultra-high Pt mass activity. The catalyst consists of hollow PtCu alloy nanospheres supported on an array of WO3 on Cu foam. By utilizing the contamination from the Pt counter electrode, the authors were able to activate low-HER-activity materials, maximizing the utilization of Pt. The resulting catalyst exhibits ultrahigh Pt mass activity, outperforming commercial Pt/C catalysts and some state-of-the-art Pt-single-atom catalysts.

Expediting H2 Evolution over MAPbI3 with a Nonnoble Metal Cocatalyst Mo2C under Visible Light

Jinxing Yu et al.

Summary: Halide perovskites are promising photocatalytic materials for H-2 evolution, but lack of proper surface reactive sites limits their potential. Anchoring Mo2C nanoparticles onto MAPbI(3) as a cocatalyst enhances H-2 evolution reactions. Mo2C@MAPbI(3) shows strong interplay, leading to efficient electron separation and transfer, achieving high apparent quantum efficiency for H-2 evolution. This study highlights the potential of Mo2C as a nonnoble metal-based cocatalyst in solar water splitting.

Photocatalytic solar hydrogen production from water on a 100-m2 scale

Hiroshi Nishiyama et al.

Summary: Hydrogen, as an energy carrier, can be obtained through photocatalysis and electrolysis, making it a carbon-neutral energy source. While photocatalytic water splitting efficiency is low, large-scale safe production and collection of hydrogen is feasible. The essential next steps for economic viability and practical use are reactor and process optimization to reduce costs and improve efficiency and stability.

Charge transfer rates and electron trapping at buried interfaces of perovskite solar cells

Igal Levine et al.

Summary: Identification of electronic processes at buried interfaces of charge selective contacts is crucial for photovoltaic and photocatalysis research. Transient surface photovoltage and photoluminescence provide complementary information on charge transfer kinetics and trapping/de-trapping mechanisms. Hole transfer rates and interface trap densities can be influenced by the chemical structure of SAMs, and high densities of interface traps can lead to significant losses in solar cells.
