Radiographic Analysis of Graft Dimensional Changes in Transcrestal Maxillary Sinus Augmentation: A Retrospective Study

Luca Comuzzi et al.

Summary: This retrospective study investigated the effectiveness of transcrestal maxillary sinus augmentation and the graft resorption pattern using different heterologous bone substitutes. The results showed that the transcrestal technique for maxillary sinus augmentation is highly predictable, and the graft resorption pattern is related to the postoperative graft size.

Supercritical Carbon Dioxide Decellularized Xenograft-3D CAD/CAM Carved Bone Matrix Personalized for Human Bone Defect Repair

Meng-Yen Chen et al.

Summary: This study explores the use of porcine bones for personalized reconstruction, using supercritical CO2 technology to extract the bone matrix while preserving the natural collagen scaffold. The 3D CAD/CAM carved bone matrices show excellent cytocompatibility and mechanical stiffness, overcoming the limitations of availability for large and complex-shaped xenografts.

A Comparative Study of Two Bone Graft Substitutes-InterOss(R) Collagen and OCS-B Collagen(R)

Gaurav Jain et al.

Summary: Bones are complex tissues that provide structure and support to organs. Bone graft substitutes, such as InterOss Collagen, have the potential to repair critical size defects that cannot regenerate on their own. In this study, InterOss Collagen was compared to another commercially available product, OCS-B Collagen, and showed similar degradation profiles, inflammatory and healing responses. These findings suggest that InterOss Collagen is a promising dental bone grafting material for periodontal and maxillofacial surgeries.

Osteoconductive properties of upside-down bilayer collagen membranes in rat calvarial defects

Balazs Feher et al.

Summary: The alignment of bilayer collagen membranes does not affect bone regeneration, as placing the membranes with the dense layer towards the bone defect or towards the soft tissues were both effective in promoting bone regeneration. The study supports the osteoconductive properties of collagen membranes regardless of their alignment.

Collagen-based biomaterials for bone tissue engineering

Youbin Li et al.

Summary: Collagen is an ideal material for bone tissue engineering due to its easy degradation, strong plasticity, and low immunogenicity, but pure collagen alone may not produce satisfactory results. Therefore, biomimetic bone tissue engineering scaffolds are often prepared with other bioactive materials. Research on collagen-based biomimetic bone tissue engineering focuses on collagen acquisition, osteogenesis induction mechanisms, composition of biomimetic materials, and application in bone tissue engineering.

Histological evaluation of extraction sites grafted with Bio-Oss Collagen: Randomized controlled trial

Christiane Keil et al.

Summary: The combination of bovine bone matrix with collagen is effective in bone and volume preservation after tooth extraction. The study aimed to determine the ideal time for implant placement after augmentation with Bio-Oss Collagen and observed differences in post-extraction changes between treated and untreated sockets. Results showed densified tissue with greater volume fraction in the treated group compared to the controls, suggesting successful implant placement after eight weeks of bone healing.

Summary: This study compared the effectiveness of bovine and porcine collagenous membranes as barriers to connective tissue invasion during the repair of critical bone defects in rat calvaria. The results showed that porcine collagen group exhibited better bone neoformation compared to the bovine collagen group.
