Facile fabrication of plasmonic wettability contrast paper surface for droplet array-based SERS sensing

Alina Peethan et al.

Summary: A facile and cost-effective method was developed to create superhydrophobic surfaces onto a superhydrophilic commercial paper for the application of droplet splitting. The technique allows for high throughput screening, microfluidic bioassays, and medical diagnosis.

Protein spot arrays on graphene oxide coatings for efficient single-cell capture

R. Kumar et al.

Summary: This study presents a graphene-based approach for single-cell arraying by using a graphene oxide surface carrying protein microarrays. The cell arrays formed using this method show significant improvement in cell adhesion and feature occupancy compared to analogous arrays on silanized glass samples, while maintaining substrate transparency for microscopy and good biocompatibility.

Development overview of Raman-activated cell sorting devoted to bacterial detection at single-cell level

Shuaishuai Yan et al.

Summary: Understanding metabolic interactions between bacteria at the single-cell level and the contribution of individual cells is crucial for exploring uncultured bacteria. The combination of RACS and SCRS with unique fingerprint characteristics has allowed microbiology research to enter the single-cell era. This review summarizes current research progress on recognizing and assessing single bacterial cells based on RACS, highlighting the importance of RACS platforms in linking cell genotype and phenotype, as well as methods for distinguishing single-cell phenotype.

Single Cell Trapping by Superhydrophobic/Superhydrophilic Microarrays

Paavo Raittinen et al.

Summary: Single cell trapping is demonstrated on superhydrophobic-superhydrophilic patterned microarrays. The optimal method for trapping single cells is found to be using superhydrophilic spots that are twice the size of the cells. The trapping is based on size exclusivity rather than heavy dilution of the cell suspension and relying on Poisson statistics.

Laser-induced assembly of biological cells and colloids onto a candle soot coated substrate

K. Monisha et al.

Summary: Laser-induced heating assisted assembly allows trapping and assembling of yeast cells and upconversion particles at low intensities, with thermal convective flow playing a vital role. Laser intensity increase leads to object assembly at the liquid-substrate interface, and tunneling of objects towards the irradiation zone is demonstrated.
