Torsional Vibration Suppression in Railway Traction Drives

Ahmed Fathy Abouzeid et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a novel torsional vibration suppression method using a Proportional-Resonant (PR) controller. The method does not require adding new sensors to the wheelset and is insensitive to mechanical drive-train parameter variation. It provides reduced sensitivity to slip velocities and wheel-rail conditions without compromising the traction capability.

Wheel-rail adhesion during torsional vibration of driven railway wheelsets

Fritz Trimpe et al.

Summary: Stability verification of railway wheelsets in Germany can be difficult due to the need for expensive and time-consuming test ride measurements. The relationship between torsional vibration and wheel-rail contact is found to have a significant impact on predicting the maximum dynamic torque stresses.
