Photocatalytic reduction of CO2 into CH4 over Ru-doped TiO2: Synergy of Ru and oxygen vacancies

Yimeng Zhou et al.

Summary: This study presents a synthesis of defected TiO2 nanocrystals with oxygen vacancies induced by Ru doping, which enhances the photocatalytic reduction of CO2 to CH4. The synergistic effect of Ru and oxygen vacancies promotes the separation of photogenerated carriers and CO2 adsorption, leading to enhanced photocatalytic activities. The optimal Ru-doped TiO2 showed significantly higher CH4 yield than the counterparts, indicating the potential of metal oxide photocatalysts with oxygen vacancies for efficient CO2 conversion.

Charge transfer and orbital reconstruction of non-noble transition metal single-atoms anchored on Ti2CTx-MXenes for highly selective CO2 electrochemical reduction

Neng Li et al.

Summary: Inspired by MXene nanosheets, a series of Ti2C-based single-atom electrocatalysts with different functional groups were designed, and their catalytic performance for CO2RR was studied. The results showed that the Ti2CO2 surface facilitated CO2 activation and had a lower free energy for the first hydrogenation reaction compared to the Ti2CS2 surface. By anchoring Cr atoms on a mixed functional group surface, high catalytic activity for selective CH4 production was achieved. This study opens a new avenue for the rational design of highly selective CO2RR electrocatalysts based on MXene.

Well-designed 2D/2D Ti3C2TA/R MXene coupled g-C3N4 heterojunction with in-situ growth of anatase/rutile TiO2 nucleates to boost photocatalytic dry-reforming of methane (DRM) for syngas production under visible light

Azmat Ali Khan et al.

Summary: The study investigated a well-designed 2D/2D g-C3N4/Ti3C2TA/R (CN/TCT) MXene heterojunction with in-situ growth of TiO2-nucleates for boosting the photocatalytic dry reforming of methane. The resulting material showed higher visible light absorption and proficient charge separation, leading to improved H-2 and CO rates compared to using CN and TCT separately. The effect of feed ratio (CO2/CH4) further confirmed efficient sorption process with good recyclability under visible light for the conversion of CO2 and CH4 to syngas.

In-situ growth of TiO2 imbedded Ti3C2TA nanosheets to construct PCN/Ti3C2TA MXenes 2D/3D heterojunction for efficient solar driven photocatalytic CO2 reduction towards CO and CH4 production

Muhammad Tahir et al.

Summary: Constructing efficient structured materials for artificial photosynthesis of CO2 is a promising strategy to produce renewable fuels that also mitigate the greenhouse effect. In this study, 2D porous g-C3N4 (PCN) coupled exfoliated 3D Ti3C2TA MXene (TiC) nanosheets with TiO2 NPs in-situ growth was achieved through a single-step HF treatment approach. Different exfoliated TiC structures were successfully synthesized by adjusting HF etching time, with varying effects on CO and CH4 production rates. The 10TiC-48/PCN composite showed significantly higher production rates for CO and CH4 compared to other samples, attributed to a porous structure facilitating charge carrier separation and TiO2 NPs acting as a bridge for electron transport. These findings suggest that heterojunction formation can enhance charge separation and be applied in solar energy technologies.
