Luminescent cyclometalated alkynylplatinum(ii) complexes with 1,3-di(pyrimidin-2-yl)benzene ligands: synthesis, electrochemistry, photophysics and computational studies

Mariia Hruzd et al.

Summary: In this article, a series of cyclometalated platinum(ii) complexes with various tridentate N^C^N-cyclometalated ligands derived from 1,3-bis(pyrimidin-2-yl)benzene were reported. The optical properties of these complexes in solution and solid state were found to be dependent on the substituents. In addition, the DFT calculations correlated well with the experimental data.

Advances in solution-processed near-infrared light-emitting diodes

Maria Vasilopoulou et al.

Summary: Near-infrared light-emitting diodes fabricated by solution-processed means using organic semiconductors, halide perovskites, and colloidal quantum dots have become a promising technological platform for various applications including biomedical, night vision, surveillance, and optical communications. Despite achieving high external quantum efficiencies exceeding 20%, challenges remain in achieving high radiance, reducing efficiency roll-off, and extending operating lifetime. This review summarizes recent advances in emissive materials synthetic methods and device key attributes contributing to improved performance of the fabricated light-emitting devices.

The role of dinuclearity in promoting thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) in cyclometallated, N∧C∧N-coordinated platinum(ii) complexes

Piotr Pander et al.

Summary: Through synthesis and analysis, we have discovered a di-Pt(ii) complex that exhibits dual luminescent behavior and activates thermally activated delayed fluorescence. Compared with the mono-Pt(ii) analogue, the di-Pt(ii) complex has a larger singlet radiative rate constant, a smaller singlet-triplet energy gap, and a longer phosphorescence decay lifetime. This bimetallic structure promotes conditions favorable for TADF, showcasing high efficiency in emitting near infrared electroluminescence.

Exceptionally fast radiative decay of a dinuclear platinum complex through thermally activated delayed fluorescence†

Piotr Pander et al.

Summary: The novel dinuclear platinum(ii) complex exhibits bright luminescence in the red region of the spectrum, with a high photoluminescence quantum yield and short excited state lifetime. It also demonstrates efficient thermally activated delayed fluorescence behavior, making it a promising candidate for OLED applications.
