Ship-Based Carbon Capture and Storage: A Supply Chain Feasibility Study

Max Buirma et al.

Summary: This study investigates the feasibility of a conceptual supply chain of liquid CO2 by utilizing a systems engineering approach. The captured CO2 is obtained from the exhaust gases of LNG powered offshore vessels and transported to land for utilization by a final customer. The research finds that by aligning the offshore transportation distance, CO2 storage capacity, and means of transport, emission and financial targets can be achieved.

Fe and Mn mixed oxide catalysts supported on Sn-modified TiO2 for the selective catalytic reduction of NO with NH3 at low temperature

Zhitao Han et al.

Summary: The addition of Sn to modify TiO2 supports improved the SO2 resistance and low-temperature SCR activity of FeMn/SnxTiO2 catalysts, leading to enhanced stability of the mesoporous structure. Sn doping also enhanced the redox properties, aiding in adsorption of NH3 species while suppressing SO2 adsorption, resulting in an improved Eley-Rideal mechanism for SCR reactions over the catalyst.

Recent engineering advances in nanocatalysts for NH3-to-H2 conversion technologies

Duy Thanh Tran et al.

Summary: The production and handling of hydrogen energy is crucial for achieving a sustainable hydrogen economy. Ammonia electrooxidation reaction (AER) is considered an effective method for high-performance hydrogen energy application, but its efficiency is affected by low temperature and the cost of electric source and catalytic efficiency. Designing nanocatalysts with unique surface chemistry, electronic structure, electroactive sites, and conductivity is important for enhancing their activity and stability in AER. Studying the AER kinetics and mechanism on nanocatalyst surface can provide insights for commercialization. This review summarizes recent NH3-to-H-2 technologies and discusses the development and potential commercialization of nanocatalysts for hydrogen production via AER.

Optimizing the dual-layer Pt/Al2O3 + Cu/SSZ-13 washcoated monolith: Selective oxidation of NH3 to N2

Pritpal S. Dhillon et al.

Summary: The state-of-the-art Ammonia Slip Catalyst (ASC) has a dual-layer washcoat architecture with a bottom layer of Pt/Al2O3 and a top layer of Cu/SSZ-13. A trade-off between the NH3 conversion and N-2 selectivity presents a challenge in the ASC design. The best results are obtained with the combination of a base mixed layer that provides for effective coupling between Pt and Cu active sites and a top Cu/SSZ-13 layer of an intermediate thickness and nominally half of the total Cu loading.

Christine Mounaim-Rousselle et al.

Summary: This paper explores the potential use of ammonia as a carbon-free fuel in a spark-ignition engine, finding that adding less than 10% H-2 to NH3 can allow the engine to operate stably in most conditions. Introducing a 10% dilution limit of H-2 into the intake gases can reduce NOx emissions by up to 40% while maintaining stable operation.

Characterization of WMnCeTiOx catalysts prepared by different methods for the selective reduction of NO with NH3

Xiaodi Li et al.

Summary: In this study, WMnCeTiOx catalysts were prepared by three different methods and their performance in the NH3-SCR reaction was systematically studied. Catalysts prepared by coprecipitation and deposition precipitation methods exhibited better performance at lower temperatures and higher resistance to SO2 and H2O compared to those prepared by the sol-gel method. The superior performance of the coprecipitation-prepared catalyst was attributed to its unique physicochemical properties and surface characteristics.
