Direct α-Acylation of Alkenes via N-Heterocyclic Carbene, Sulfinate, and Photoredox Cooperative Triple Catalysis

Kun Liu et al.

Summary: N-Heterocyclic carbene (NHC) catalysis is a versatile tool in modern synthetic chemistry, often used in concert with a second catalytic moiety to expand reaction scope. Triple catalysis, merging three different catalytic modes in a single process, has been recently studied, allowing for the synthesis of complex compounds. In a reported study, alpha-C-H acylation of alkenes using NHC, sulfinate, and photoredox cooperative triple catalysis was achieved, highlighting the potential of such synergistic catalytic systems.

Enantioselective Addition of Pyrazoles to Dienes**

Alexander Y. Jiu et al.

Summary: This study presents the first enantioselective addition of pyrazoles to 1,3-dienes, resulting in the formation of secondary and tertiary allylic pyrazoles with excellent regioselectivity. Mechanistic studies indicate a distinct pathway involving Pd-0-catalyzed ligand-to-ligand hydrogen transfer (LLHT), expanding the field of diene hydrofunctionalization with tolerance for various functional groups.

Palladium-catalyzed 1,1-alkynylbromination of alkenes with alkynyl bromides

Yusuke Ano et al.

Summary: The palladium-catalyzed 1,1-alkynylbromination reaction allows for a diverse range of alkenes to selectively produce propargylic bromides. Mechanistic studies suggest that the reaction proceeds through Pd center migration and the formation of a pi-allenyl Pd intermediate.

Visible light-mediated metal-free double bond deuteration of substituted phenylalkenes

Roman Iakovenko et al.

Summary: In this study, various bromophenylalkenes were reductively photodebrominated using DMBI and 9,10-dicyanoanthracene, with satisfactory to excellent isotopic yields achieved with deuterated DMBI analogs. DMBI-d(11) was the most effective analog, and it could also be regenerated from the reaction mixtures with a recovery rate of up to 50%. The combination of photodebromination reaction with conventional methods for bromoalkene synthesis allows for sequential monodeuteration of a double bond without the necessity of a metal catalyst.
