Galactic rotation curves versus ultralight dark matter: A systematic comparison with SPARC data

Nitsan Bar et al.

Summary: This study presents observational constraints on the imprint of ultralight dark matter (ULDM) soliton cores in rotation-dominated galaxies. It disfavors the soliton-host halo relation found in numerical simulations in a broad range of ULDM particle masses. Combining these constraints with theoretical arguments, the study argues against ULDM comprising 100% of the cosmological dark matter in a specific mass range. The constraints explore the ULDM fraction down to less than 0.3 of the total dark matter.

High-precision search for dark photon dark matter with the Parkes Pulsar Timing Array

Xiao Xue et al.

Summary: The nature of dark matter remains unclear despite years of experimental efforts, making detection extremely challenging. Ultra-light dark matter, proposed to reconcile observational discrepancies, behaves as a coherently oscillating background field due to its large de Broglie wavelength and local occupation number within galaxies. Although no significant signal was found in this study, constraints on coupling constants for dark photon dark matter were established.

New constraints on the mass of fermionic dark matter from dwarf spheroidal galaxies

James Alvey et al.

Summary: Dwarf spheroidal galaxies are ideal systems for studying the nature of fermionic dark matter, and in this study, lower bounds on the mass of fermionic dark matter particles are explored using their high observed dark matter phase-space density. By refining previous phase-space considerations and discussing two methods, the study provides model-independent lower bounds on the dark matter mass and offers constraints for different scenarios such as thermally decoupled particles and sterile neutrinos. The results show strengthened bounds for relativistically decoupled thermal relics and comparisons with limits from other observations.

Searching for Gravitational Waves from Cosmological Phase Transitions with the NANOGrav 12.5-Year Dataset

Zaven Arzoumanian et al.

Summary: The study explores a potential first-order phase transition gravitational wave signal, possibly occurring at temperatures below the electroweak scale, in 45 pulsars from the NANOGrav dataset. However, there is no strong preference for this phase-transition interpretation over the standard astrophysical explanation of supermassive black hole mergers. Future datasets are expected to improve discriminating power, enhance signal-to-noise ratio, and extend sensitivity to lower frequencies, offering a chance to better distinguish such signals.

Strong Bound on Canonical Ultralight Axion Dark Matter from the Lyman-Alpha Forest

Keir K. Rogers et al.

Summary: By using the Lyman-alpha forest to search for suppressed cosmic structure growth, we present a new lower limit on the ultralight axion (ULA) dark matter mass m(a): m(a) > 2 x 10(-20) eV. This study strongly disfavors the canonical ULA with mass within the range of 10(-22) eV to 10(-21) eV.

Stochastic fluctuations of bosonic dark matter

Gary P. Centers et al.

Summary: Studies have shown that constraints inferred from several previous null experiments searching for ultralight bosonic dark matter were overestimated by factors ranging from 3 to 10, due to not considering the characteristic coherence time of the dark matter field. Laboratory measurements need to take into account the stochastic nature of such a virialized ultralight field when interpreting data.

Bayesian forecasts for dark matter substructure searches with mock pulsar timing data

Vincent S. H. Lee et al.

Summary: A Bayesian inference framework is proposed to search for phase shifts generated by primordial black holes and provide a more realistic forecast for the detectability of such dark matter models using pulsar timing arrays. Constraints on dark matter abundance for most primordial black hole masses agree with previous analyses, motivating a dedicated search for such structures. Future pulsar timing arrays are predicted to constrain primordial black holes down to 10(-11) solar masses, with discussions on the impact of backgrounds like Supermassive Black Hole Mergers.

Probing small-scale power spectra with pulsar timing arrays

Vincent S. H. Lee et al.

Summary: Models of Dark Matter can have different impacts on small scale structure of the Universe, and the ability of Pulsar Timing Arrays to search for and constrain subhalos from these models varies. Some Dark Matter models may be observable with future PTAs, while others are likely out of reach. A Python Monte Carlo tool for generating PTA time delay signal from any model of DM substructure is also provided.

Summary: The NANOGrav pulsar timing array experiment provides evidence for a potential detection of a stochastic gravitational wave background, with implications for matching the upper limits set by BICEP2/Keck Array and Planck. Results suggest the existence of a parameter space related to big bang nucleosynthesis constraints.

Improved sensitivity of interferometric gravitational-wave detectors to ultralight vector dark matter from the finite light-traveling time

Soichiro Morisaki et al.

Summary: Recent studies have shown that gravitational-wave detectors are sensitive to ultralight vector dark matter, and taking into account the effect of finite light-traveling time significantly improves their sensitivity. In the future, the sensitivity of gravitational-wave detectors will be overwhelmingly better than the current ones.
