Prevalence of unintended pregnancy and its associated factors: Evidence from six south Asian countries

Alamgir Sarder et al.

Summary: This study explored the prevalence of unintended pregnancy and its determinants among women of reproductive age in six South Asian countries. Factors such as age, wealth index, place of residence, number of children, family size, intention of contraceptive use, living with a partner, and first cohabitation age were found to be essential determinants of unintended pregnancy. Addressing these factors and improving health education, counseling, contraceptive access, and reproductive health policies are crucial in reducing rates of unintended pregnancy in South Asian countries.

Levels and socioeconomic correlates of nonmarital fertility in Ghana

Samuel H. Nyarko et al.

Summary: The study reveals that nonmarital fertility levels in Ghana are on the rise, with certain socioeconomic characteristics and behavioral factors associated with higher risks of nonmarital childbearing. There are also regional disparities, with the Central Region having higher risks of nonmarital fertility. The findings highlight the social concern of childbirth outside marriage among women in Ghana and suggest implications for bridging socioeconomic disparities among unmarried women.
