Biorthogonal quantum criticality in non-Hermitian many-body systems

Gaoyong Sun et al.

Summary: The perturbation theory of fidelity susceptibility in biorthogonal bases for arbitrary interacting non-Hermitian many-body systems with real eigenvalues is developed. The quantum criticality in the non-Hermitian transverse field Ising chain is investigated, revealing a second-order phase transition in the Ising universal class. Numerical computations of critical points and critical exponents from finite-size scaling theory show that the biorthogonal quantum phase transitions are described by biorthogonal fidelity susceptibility instead of conventional fidelity susceptibility.

Exceptional Photon Blockade: Engineering Photon Blockade with Chiral Exceptional Points

Ran Huang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the emergence of single-photon blockade in a Kerr microring resonator due to EP-induced asymmetric coupling and nonlinearity-induced anharmonic energy-level spacing. By tuning the EP position, quantum correlations can be controlled, opening up opportunities for the fabrication and utilization of single-photon quantum EP devices.

Non-Hermitian many-body topological excitations in interacting quantum dots

Timo Hyart et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that non-Hermitian many-body topological modes can be achieved in a quantum dot chain through gate-tunable modulation of dissipation. The results show that these topological modes are robust even in the presence of strong interactions, highlighting the resilience of non-Hermitian topology to electronic interactions.

Exceptional points in the one-dimensional Hubbard model

Roman Rausch et al.

Summary: The paper presents a new method of analyzing and interpreting spectra in the presence of interactions using non-Hermitian phenomena. By utilizing the density-matrix renormalization group, the existence of exceptional points in the one-dimensional Hubbard chain with chiral symmetry is demonstrated, showing a Fermi arc at zero frequency in the spectrum. These points are a result of the non-Hermiticity of the effective Hamiltonian and are only present at finite temperature.

Perturbation theory in the complex plane: exceptional points and where to find them

Antoine Marie et al.

Summary: This article explores the non-Hermitian extension of quantum chemistry in the complex plane and its connection with perturbation theory, with a focus on the physics of exceptional points and the historical research activities in this field. The convergence behavior of perturbative series, including resummation techniques like Pade and quadratic approximants, is discussed, along with their implications in improving accuracy. The versatility of the Hubbard dimer at half filling in understanding analytically-continued perturbation theory in the complex plane is highlighted.

Symmetry-Protected Multifold Exceptional Points and their Topological Characterization

Pierre Delplace et al.

Summary: In non-Hermitian systems, n-fold exceptional points are shown to be stable in n - 1 dimensions in the presence of antiunitary symmetries that are local in parameter space. The stability of these multifold exceptional points beyond the usual twofold ones is expressed in terms of the homotopy properties of a introduced resultant vector. Furthermore, applying a general formalism to a frictional shallow water model reveals the existence of threefold exceptional points associated with topological numbers.

Non-Hermitian Skin Effects in Hermitian Correlated or Disordered Systems: Quantities Sensitive or Insensitive to Boundary Effects and Pseudo-Quantum-Number

Nobuyuki Okuma et al.

Summary: In the condensed matter community, there is a common belief that bulk quantities become insensitive to boundary conditions in the infinite-volume limit. However, recent research has shown that for non-Hermitian Hamiltonians, spectra strongly depend on boundary conditions, which can have significant effects in Hermitian correlated or disordered systems. Additionally, non-normal pseudospectra can be tested through sharp optical absorption, indicating the emergence of pseudo quantum numbers as a result of high non-normality.

Dynamically Induced Exceptional Phases in Quenched Interacting Semimetals

Carl Lehmann et al.

Summary: This study reports on the dynamical formation of exceptional degeneracies in basic correlation functions of nonintegrable systems quenched to the vicinity of a critical point. Through fine-tuning the phase diagram of the systems, semimetallic points are promoted to topologically robust non-Hermitian nodal phases, which emerge in the coherent time evolution of a dynamically equilibrating system. Observable signatures of these NH nodal phases are predicted in both equilibrated spectral functions and in the nonequilibrium dynamics of momentum distribution functions using nonequilibrium Green's function methods within the conserving second Born approximation.

Summary: This paper investigates the phenomenon of exceptional points in Fermi liquids with high angular momentum interactions by calculating the AC conductivity and finding clear features related to the structure of the collective mode spectrum. Experimental results show clear signs of exceptional points in the narrow slab, with corresponding appearances under different coupling constants.

Non-Hermitian band topology from momentum-dependent relaxation in two-dimensional metals with spiral magnetism

Johannes Mitscherling et al.

Summary: In this study, the emergence of non-Hermitian band topology in a two-dimensional metal with planar spiral magnetism is investigated. The research reveals that a momentum-dependent relaxation rate can lead to exceptional points in the Brillouin zone, resulting in pairs of opposite topological charges connected by arc-shaped branch cuts. Additionally, these exceptional points can cause a drastic change in the Fermi surface topology by merging electron and hole pockets at isolated points in the Brillouin zone.

Real-space dynamical mean field theory study of non-Hermitian skin effect for correlated systems: Analysis based on pseudospectrum

Tsuneya Yoshida

Summary: In this study, a correlated system in equilibrium with non-Hermitian topology inducing a skin effect was analyzed. The pseudospectrum under different boundary conditions and the impact of line-gap topology were discussed. Numerical simulations revealed that damping of quasiparticles destroys nontrivial line-gap topology while inducing nontrivial point-gap topology, which are reflected in the temperature dependence of local pseudospectral weight.
