Atomization of As and Se volatile species in a dielectric barrier discharge atomizer after hydride generation: Fate of analyte studied by selected ion flow tube mass spectrometry

Jan Kratzer et al.

Summary: This study investigated the atomization of hydrides and their methylated analogues in a dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma atomizer using Selected ion flow tube mass spectrometry (SIFT-MS) as a detector, revealing that the atomization efficiency of SeH2 is below 80%. The research also showed that in the absence of hydrogen fraction in the carrier gas, arsenic hydride is not atomized but decomposed in the DBD atomizer.

A critical review on sulfur reduction of aqueous selenite: Mechanisms and applications

Jiaming Xiong et al.

Summary: Selenite, highly toxic at high concentrations, can be easily enriched in natural water environments due to human activities, causing significant harm to ecosystems. Sulfur reduction effectively converts soluble selenite to nontoxic solid selenium, playing a vital role in controlling selenium toxicity. This review comprehensively summarizes the continuous development in the sulfidation of selenite and identifies future research needs for environmental applications.

Nanosafety evaluation through feces: A comparison between selenium nanoparticles and selenite in rats

Xiaoying Lin et al.

Summary: A non-invasive protocol for nanosafety evaluation using metagenomics, metabolomics, and metallomics through feces was proposed in this study. The research showed that Se NPs had less impact on intestinal microbiota and metabolites compared to Na2SeO3. This approach can be utilized for screening the nanosafety of other nanomaterials.
