Prediction scenarios of past, present, and future environmental suitability for the Mediterranean species Arbutus unedo L.

Alice Maria Almeida et al.

Summary: This study used species-distribution software to model the adaptation of the Mediterranean species Arbutus unedo. The findings indicate the presence of refugia in the core of the Mediterranean Basin and predict that future environmental changes will result in habitat loss and a northward range shift.

Effect of climate warming on seedling growth and biomass accumulation of Acacia modesta and Olea ferruginea in a subtropical scrub forest of Pakistan

Gul Zareen Ghafoor et al.

Summary: This study investigated the short-term impacts of projected climate warming on two dominant tree species in the subtropical scrub forest of Hayat-ul-Mir, Pakistan. The results showed that the effects of warming temperatures differed for Acacia modesta and Olea ferruginea, with Acacia modesta growing better under ambient temperature conditions and Olea ferruginea benefitting from elevated temperatures.

Ensemble modelling enables identification of suitable sites for habitat restoration of threatened biodiversity under climate change: A case study of Himalayan Trillium

Zubair Ahmad Rather et al.

Summary: In an era of climate change, identifying suitable habitats for ecosystem restoration is critical for conservation of globally threatened biodiversity. This study integrates ensemble modelling and community ecology data to identify suitable habitats for Himalayan Trillium and proposes a two-pronged strategy for habitat restoration.

Modeling of Valeriana wallichii Habitat Suitability and Niche Dynamics in the Himalayan Region under Anticipated Climate Change

Priyanka Kumari et al.

Summary: This study discusses the impact of climate change on the habitat distribution of the endangered medicinal herb Valeriana wallichii. The results show that its suitable habitats will significantly decrease under future climate scenarios, and the niche dynamics will also be affected. The habitats of Valeriana wallichii are highly vulnerable to climate shifts, highlighting the importance of this study for species conservation and recovery efforts.

Predicting habitat suitability and niche dynamics of Dactylorhiza hatagirea and Rheum webbianum in the Himalaya under projected climate change

Ishfaq Ahmad Wani et al.

Summary: In the era of anthropocene, global warming is impacting the distribution of plant species, especially those that are endemic, inhabit higher elevations, and have narrow ranges. The current study used BIOMOD ensemble forecasting to predict the potential distribution of Dactylorhiza hatagirea and Rheum webbianum in Himalayan biodiversity hotspots under climate change scenarios. Results showed that the suitable habitats for these species will significantly decrease in the future. This study highlights the severe impact of climate change on the habitat distribution of plant species in the Himalayan biodiversity hotspots.

Changing Climatic Scenarios Anticipate Dwindling of Suitable Habitats for Endemic Species of Himalaya-Predictions of Ensemble Modelling Using Aconitum heterophyllum as a Model Plant

Zishan Ahmad Wani et al.

Summary: In this study, species distribution modelling was used to explore the potential distribution of Aconitum heterophyllum under current and future climatic scenarios. The results showed that annual precipitation significantly influenced the distribution of this species. Future climatic modelling predicted a significant decrease in suitable habitats for A. heterophyllum, particularly before 2050.

Atmospheric Warming-Associated Phenological Earliness Does Not Increase the Length of Growing Season in Himalayan Trees

G. C. S. Negi et al.

Summary: This study reveals that bud break and leafing in trees have advanced in Himalayan forests, associated with a significant increase in atmospheric temperature. However, the leaf drop period has also advanced, resulting in no increase in the length of season for trees. The phenological earliness may potentially impact forest ecosystem structure and functioning in the long run.

Modelling the Effects of Climate Change on the Distribution of Endangered Cypripedium japonicum in China

Yadong Xu et al.

Summary: The study found that with climate change, the suitable habitat of C. japonicum will slightly increase and shift northwestward, but highly suitable areas will be severely lost. Under future climatic conditions, the highly suitable habitats in Zhejiang and Anhui will almost disappear. The problem of climate change may be more urgent than it is believed.

Summary: The study analyzed the climate variability and trends in the Kashmir Himalaya region from 1980 to 2017, showing significant increasing trends in temperature across the region with non-significant positive trends in precipitation, with variations observed in different seasons. The changing precipitation patterns could have significant implications on the ecological sustainability and food security of the region.

Summary: The study found that in Mt.
