High-Resolution Coherent Probe Spectroscopy of a Polariton Quantum Fluid

F. Claude et al.

Summary: In this study, we present an original angle-resolved coherent probe spectroscopy technique to characterize elementary excitations in polariton fluids. With unprecedented spectral and spatial resolution, we directly observe the low-energy phononic behavior and detect negative-energy modes, as well as reveal narrow spectral features precursory of dynamical instabilities due to the intrinsic out-of-equilibrium nature of the system.

Bogoliubov excitations of a polariton condensate in dynamical equilibrium with an incoherent reservoir

M. Pieczarka et al.

Summary: The authors develop a generalized version of Bogoliubov theory for a driven-dissipative exciton-polariton condensate with a large incoherent uncondensed component. They argue that the presence of an excitonic reservoir modifies the energy and amplitudes of the Bogoliubov quasiparticle excitations. The authors support their theoretical findings with experimental results.

Low-Energy Collective Oscillations and Bogoliubov Sound in an Exciton-Polariton Condensate

E. Estrecho et al.

Summary: In this study, low-energy, low-momentum collective oscillations of an exciton-polariton condensate in a round box trap were observed, with the frequencies of dipole and breathing modes consistent with a weakly interacting two-dimensional trapped Bose gas. The extracted speed of sound from the dipole oscillation frequency was found to be smaller than the Bogoliubov sound, partially due to the influence of the incoherent reservoir. These findings provide insights into the effects of reservoir, dissipation, energy relaxation, and finite temperature on the superfluid properties of exciton-polariton condensates and other two-dimensional open-dissipative quantum fluids.

Finite-temperature Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov theory for exciton-polaritons

A. M. Grudinina et al.

Summary: The study discusses the nonequilibrium Bose condensation of microcavity exciton-polaritons at high critical temperatures and their formation of quantum degenerate Bose-Einstein distribution in thermal equilibrium with the surrounding medium. It is found that large positive detunings provide conditions for the total lifetime to reach nanosecond timescales, allowing for the realization of thermodynamically equilibrium polariton systems with Bose-Einstein condensate forming at temperatures as high as tens of Kelvin.
