Systematic investigation of the piezocatalysis-adsorption duality of polymorphic MoS2 nanoflowers

Hsun-Yen Lin et al.

Summary: This study investigates the piezocatalytic and adsorption effects of different phases of polymorphic 1T MoS2 nanofibers. Experimental results show that few-layer 2H MoS2 nanofibers exhibit a considerably high piezoelectric potential compared to few-layer MoS2 nanofibers. Additionally, the 2H MoS2 nanofibers generate hydroxyl species and degrade dye molecules through the piezopotential. These findings suggest a dual piezocatalysis-adsorption behavior of polymorphic MoS2 nanofibers.

Synthesis of clinoptilolite-supported BiOCl/TiO2 heterojunction nanocomposites with highly-enhanced photocatalytic activity for the complete degradation of xanthates under visible light

Pengfei Zhou et al.

Summary: A novel ternary BiOCl/TiO2/clinoptilolite (BTC) nanocomposite with highly-enhanced photocatalytic activity under visible light was successfully prepared via a facile hydrothermal route, showing excellent adsorption and degradation performance for the target contaminant SIPX. The enhanced photocatalytic activity was mainly attributed to the effective construction of the BiOCl/TiO2 heterojunction and the excellent adsorption ability of the clinoptilolite in the BTC nanocomposites, as confirmed by characterization analysis and experimental results. Radical scavenger tests indicated that superoxide radical anions and photogenerated holes were the dominant active species in the reaction system, suggesting the potential of these novel nanocomposites as efficient photocatalysts for complete degradation of xanthates under visible light.

Mechanism insights into the facet-dependent photocatalytic degradation of perfluorooctanoic acid on BiOCl nanosheets

Yaoyao Wu et al.

Summary: The photocatalytic degradation of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) using BiOCl nanosheets with {010} or {001} facets showed that {010}-BiOCl exhibited higher catalytic activity compared to {001}-BiOCl in the degradation of perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA). The higher catalytic activity of {010}-BiOCl was attributed to the in-situ generated surface oxygen vacancies and strong interaction with PFOA molecules. Furthermore, the nanosheets with {010} facets showed the highest adsorption capacity and lowest adsorption energy for PFOA molecules, while photogenerated holes and surface hydroxyl radicals on {010} facets played a significant role in the degradation process. Additionally, F- ions as by-products tended to block the catalytic sites but could be removed using a simple chemical precipitation approach with Ca2+ ions to recover the catalytic performance.
