Try Another Crystal: Crystal-Dependent Disorder of Pentaphosphaferrocene within the Same Crystallization

Eugenia Peresypkina et al.

Summary: This study found that the degree of disorder between the mirrored positions of [Cp'' Fe(η(5)-P-5)] molecules in the orthorhombic Pca2(1) space group varies, ranging from 1% to 24% depending on the selected single crystal for X-ray structural determination. This unusual behavior is caused by stacking faults in adjacent layers, resulting in two polytypes. Additionally, crystals with fewer stacking faults demonstrate temperature-induced superstructural ordering.

Structural Chemistry of Giant Metal Based Supramolecules

Alexander V. Virovets et al.

Summary: This review provides an overview of the research status in the field of giant nonbiological discrete metal complexes and nanometer-sized ions, focusing on their structural characterization through single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The main structural features of metal clusters, including compact metal oxide/hydroxide/chalcogenide cores, ligand-based metal-organic cages, and supramolecular structures, as well as the packing of molecules or ions in crystals and methodological aspects of single-crystal neutron and X-ray diffraction of these compounds, are discussed.

Organometallic polyphosphorus complexes as diversified building blocks in coordination chemistry

Eugenia Peresypkina et al.

Summary: Complexes containing cyclo-P-n ligands can form coordination with metal atoms, leading to a wide range of self-assembled structures including polynuclear complexes, multidimensional coordination polymers, and giant supramolecules. Different coordination modes can be achieved based on the number and position of phosphorus atoms in the P-n ring, contributing to the structural diversity of self-assembled architectures.
