A Smart Molecule Showing Spin Crossover Responsive Aggregation-Induced Emission

Cheng Yi et al.

Summary: This study presents a mononuclear compound with aggregation-induced emission and thermally induced spin crossover (SCO) properties, showing effective control of luminescence intensity through spin transition. Unlike the traditional strategy, this research achieves effective coupling between SCO and luminescence by tuning intermolecular interactions through subtle structural changes. The results provide a rational strategy for constructing smart multifunctional materials with synergistic SCO and luminescence.

Chun-Feng Wang et al.

Summary: A new spin crossover-fluorescent compound with a 2D structure and high sensitivity has been developed. Its magnetic and fluorescence properties can be simultaneously controlled by multiple external stimuli, including physical thermal treatment and chemical stimuli. The compound exhibits reversible variations and wide thermal hysteresis loops in its temperature-dependent magnetic susceptibility and fluorescence intensity.

Acidity-Driven Bidirectional Room-Temperature Spin-State Switch and Fluorescence Modulation of a Mononuclear Fe(II) Complex

Yi-Shan Ye et al.

Summary: This study reports a bidirectional spin-state switch and fluorescence modulation of an Fe(II) complex based on a rhodamine B 2-pyridinecarbaldehyde hydrazone ligand, showing reversible spin-state changes at both room temperature and high temperature, as well as under acidification and alkalization treatment. The reversible spin-state switch was attributed to solvent loss and ligand tautomerization, leading to fluorescence enhancement in response to external stimuli.

Synergic Bistability between Spin Transition and Fluorescence in Polyfluorene Composites with Spin Crossover Polymers

Irene Sanchez-Molina et al.

Summary: This study reported the fabrication of composites consisting of a fluorescent organic semiconductor polymer and a spin crossover compound, demonstrating a strong synergy between the spin transition of the Fe(II) compound and variations in the fluorescence of the organic polymer. The modulation of fluorescence was shown to be reversible, with an increase of <=20% compared to the original value.

Summary: The synthesis and properties studies of a mononuclear Fe(II) complex with a pyrene fluorophore-decorated ligand were reported. The complex showed incomplete spin-crossover in a certain temperature range and light-induced excited spin state trapping. Fluorescence was achieved in both solution and solid state, demonstrating the coexistence of spin-crossover and fluorescence in one compound.

Ya-Ru Qiu et al.

Summary: Two polymorphic Fe-II coordination polymers were obtained using a redox-active tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) functionalized ligand and a highly luminescent connector. These coordination polymers retained the redox activity of the TTF unit, with complex 1 showing gradual spin transition behavior and a correlation between fluorescence intensity of TPPE and spin crossover transition.

Monitoring spin-crossover phenomena via Re(I) luminescence in hybrid Fe(II) silica coated nanoparticles

Ismael Francisco Diaz-Ortega et al.

Summary: Nanoparticles based on polymer were prepared, with the silica-coated ones showing enhanced abruptness of spin transition. A Re(I) complex with intense green emission was synthesized, and its grafting onto the silica shell led to a bifunctional SCO-luminescence composite whose properties were tuned by spin state switching. Photophysical studies demonstrated synchronized luminescence and spin transition through a radiative energy transfer mechanism between different centers.
