Single-shot common-path off-axis digits holography: applications in bioimaging and optical metrology [Invited]

Manoj Kumar et al.

Summary: The demand for single-shot and common-path holographic systems has been increasing, as they offer advantages such as reduced computational complexity and high stability. A single-shot common-path off-axis digital holographic setup based on a beam splitter and pinhole has been developed for applications including quantitative phase imaging, micro-optics testing, industrial inspection, and sound field visualization.

2D full-field displacement and vibration measurements of specularly reflecting surfaces by two-beam common-path digital holography

Manoj Kumar et al.

Summary: A new configuration of common-path off-axis digital holography is proposed for evaluating out-of-plane and in-plane displacements of a vibrating object simultaneously. The system features a simple and compact optical setup, low sensitivity to environmental disturbances, and high temporal phase stability. The experimental results authenticate the feasibility of the proposed system and demonstrate its unique advantages for investigating real-time dynamic phenomena.

Portable digital holographic camera featuring enhanced field of view and reduced exposure time

Raj Kumar et al.

Summary: Digital holography provides a full-field and high-resolution technique for non-destructive testing of electro-opto-mechanical components and products. However, environmental and system vibrations require the development of holographic systems in the laboratory on optical vibration isolation platforms. Another drawback is the small field of view due to limited spatial resolution of available digital sensors. This study introduces a compact and portable digital holographic camera (DHC) with an enhanced field of view, achieved through an efficient opto-mechanical design. The DHC provides a 192% larger field of view compared to conventional digital holographic systems with a temporal stability of 48 nm over an operation time of 10 min, potentially expanding the use of digital holography in non-destructive testing applications.

Effect of displacement in object plane on reconstructed image in lens-based digital holography

Lavlesh Pensia et al.

Summary: The study investigates the impact of introducing lenses on the quality of reconstructed images in digital holography, comparing various off-axis digital holographic setups using structural similarity index measure (SSIM) values. It is found that different lens-based setups have different suitable recording distances for digital holograms, and the quality of reconstructed images can be effectively evaluated through SSIM values.
