High-Entropy Metal Sulfide Nanoparticles Promise High-Performance Oxygen Evolution Reaction

Mingjin Cui et al.

Summary: Transition metal sulfides with a multi-elemental nature are considered promising catalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) due to their good catalytic activity. A high-entropy metal sulfide (HEMS) solid solution nanoparticles (i.e., (CrMnFeCoNi)S-x) were synthesized for the first time, showing enhanced OER activity compared to unary, binary, ternary, and quaternary sulfide counterparts. This work opens up a new synthesis paradigm for high-entropy compound nanoparticles for highly efficient electrocatalysis applications.

Oxygen evolution reaction over catalytic single-site Co in a well-defined brookite TiO2 nanorod surface

Chang Liu et al.

Summary: Efficient single-site Co catalysts supported on well-defined TiO2 nanorods were found to exhibit excellent performance in the oxygen evolution reaction (OER), with turnover frequencies among the highest reported for Co-based catalysts. Computational and experimental results showed good agreement in describing the catalytic reaction kinetics and mechanisms.

Luminescence properties of large-size Li2MoO4 single crystal grown by Czochralski method

Xin Chen et al.

Summary: The properties of Li2MoO4 single crystal were systematically studied, including phase identification, thermal behavior, optical transmission, spectra, and luminescence characteristics. It was found that the luminescence intensity and decay times of Li2MoO4 single crystal varied with temperature, showing different optical properties at different temperature ranges.

In Situ/Operando Capturing Unusual Ir6+ Facilitating Ultrafast Electrocatalytic Water Oxidation

Lili Li et al.

Summary: This study investigates the catalytic mechanism of ordered OER active Co and Ir ions in Sr2CoIrO6-δ, achieving unprecedented low overpotential and high catalytic performance. Experimental results show gradual conversion of Ir4+ ions to Ir5+/6+ and part of Co3+ ions to Co4+, while density functional theory calculations reveal the ordered Co-O-Ir network as the origin of ultrahigh OER activity. These findings open a promising pathway to overcome the sluggish kinetics of OER bottleneck for water splitting by proper arrangements of multi-active sites in the catalyst.

Grain Boundaries Boost Oxygen Evolution Reaction in NiFe Electrocatalysts

Hoon Kee Park et al.

Summary: This study found that the grain boundary density directly affects the overall oxygen evolution reaction (OER) process on the surface of NiFe electrocatalysts, with OER mainly occurring at the grain boundaries. Additionally, the grain boundary density alters the reaction determining steps and a significant work function difference exists between the inside of grains and grain boundaries.
