Limits on atomic qubit control from laser noise

Matthew L. Day et al.

Summary: Technical noise in laser systems can limit their ability to control atomic qubits with high fidelity. The noise from the laser source should be suppressed below the spontaneous emission floor to achieve optimal control fidelities. Previous studies have only focused on noise magnitudes, while the spectral structure of control noise has a significant influence on achievable control fidelities. This study investigates the unique spectral structure of laser noise and introduces a metric, the chi-separation line, to determine when a stabilized laser source is optimized for quantum control of atomic qubits. The bandwidth requirements for stabilization can be much higher than simply narrowing the linewidth of the laser.

Prospects for a simultaneous atom interferometer with ultracold cadmium and strontium for fundamental physics tests

Jonathan N. Tinsley et al.

Summary: Matter-wave interferometers operating as clocks and gravimeters enable precision measurements of time and gravity at unprecedented levels. The control of both internal and external degrees of freedom of ultracold atomic samples allows for studies of quantum interactions, paving the way for new tests of fundamental physics. Novel interferometric schemes based on narrow intercombination transitions of alkali-earth atoms have gained considerable attention.

Stable high power deep-uv enhancement cavity in ultra-high vacuum with fluoride coatings

Zakary Burkley et al.

Summary: Dielectric fluoride coatings outperform oxide coatings in long term vacuum operation, maintaining stable high power deep-ultraviolet enhancement cavity power levels for longer periods. Initial UV conditioning in an oxygen environment helps improve the performance of fluoride optics, which can stably maintain high intracavity power in oxygen-rich environments.
