Multivariate metal-organic framework MTV-MIL-101 via post-synthetic cation exchange: is it truly achievable?

Mahmoud Y. Zorainy et al.

Summary: The post-synthetic exchange (PSE) method is an effective approach to modify metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). The solvent-assisted cation substitution (SACS) technique can prepare mixed-metal multivariate MOFs (MTV-MOFs), but it is not applicable to all MOFs. This study successfully achieved mixed-metal MIL-101 (Cr/Fe) by changing the solvent and reaction conditions.

MXene versus graphene oxide: Investigation on the effects of 2D nanosheets in mixed matrix membranes for CO2 separation

Feng Shi et al.

Summary: The study found that MXene-filled membranes allow for much higher loading (up to 20 wt%) compared to GO-filled membranes (up to 5 wt%). Interestingly, dry-state membranes exhibit optimal CO2 separation performance at low loading (1 wt%), while wet-state membranes show increased permeability and CO2/N-2 selectivity at higher filler loadings, contrasting with results obtained under dry conditions. The enhanced CO2 separation performance at high loading under humidification can be attributed to the hydrated interlayer channels of MXene/GO, indicating unique characteristics of MXene in wet-state mixed matrix membranes for CO2 separation.

Mixed matrix membranes with highly dispersed MOF nanoparticles for improved gas separation

Yapeng Shi et al.

Summary: Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) are ideal fillers for preparing mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) due to their molecular sieving property. Highly dispersed ZIF-8 nanoparticles with diameter of around 50 nm were prepared by coating isophthalic dihydrazide (IPD) molecular layer onto their surfaces. The modification of IPD greatly enhances the interfacial affinity between ZIF-8 and 6FDA-Durene polyimide (PI) in MMMs, resulting in improved gas permeation performance.

Hamid Reza Mahdipoor et al.

Summary: MIL-101(Fe)-NH2 was synthesized using the solvothermal method to evaluate its selective adsorption of CO2 over N-2 and CH4. The study found that the adsorption capacity of CO2 was the highest. Different adsorption isotherm models, including Khan model, BET model, and a hybrid model, were used to correlate the adsorption behavior of CO2, showing good agreement with experimental data. The selectivity of CO2 over N-2 and CH4 was estimated to be around 2.2 at 16 bar using Ideal Adsorbed Solution Theory (IAST).
