Spin current Kondo effect in frustrated Kondo systems

Jiangfan Wang et al.

Summary: Magnetic frustrations can enhance quantum fluctuations and lead to exotic topological insulating states in spin systems. When coupled to mobile electrons, they may give rise to unusual non-Fermi liquid or metallic spin liquid states whose nature has not been well explored. By considering a spin current Kondo mechanism in a frustrated Kondo model, a series of non-Fermi liquid phases can be formed.

A unified theory of ferromagnetic quantum phase transitions in heavy fermion metals

Jiangfan Wang et al.

Summary: Motivated by the recent discovery of a continuous ferromagnetic quantum phase transition in CeRh6Ge4 and its distinction from other U-based heavy fermion metals such as UGe2, this study develops a unified explanation of their different ground state properties based on an anisotropic ferromagnetic Kondo-Heisenberg model. The calculations reveal three different ferromagnetic phases and the change of Fermi surface topologies between different phases. The study highlights the importance of magnetic anisotropy and provides a unified theory for understanding the ferromagnetic quantum phase transitions in heavy fermion metals.

Incoherent transport across the strange-metal regime of overdoped cuprates

J. Ayres et al.

Summary: Strange metals exhibit unconventional electrical properties such as linear resistivity, inverse Hall angle, and linear magnetoresistance. Research suggests that these anomalies in cuprates may be related to a quantum critical point inside the superconducting dome, extending beyond the critical doping level. The presence of two charge sectors, one with coherent quasiparticles and the other with scale-invariant 'Planckian' dissipators, indicates a complex behavior in the strange-metal regime.

Schwinger boson approach for the dynamical mean-field theory of the Kondo lattice

Rulei Han et al.

Summary: By using the dynamical large-N Schwinger boson technique as an impurity solver for DMFT calculations of the Kondo lattice model, we are able to capture hybridization physics missing in pure Schwinger boson calculations and obtain qualitative agreement with more rigorous calculations of thermodynamic and transport properties, correctly demonstrating crossover behavior over a wide temperature range from local moment regime to Fermi liquid. Our method can be extended to efficiently combine with density functional theory for material calculations.

Nonlocal Kondo effect and quantum critical phase in heavy-fermion metals

Jiangfan Wang et al.

Summary: The authors developed an efficient algorithm for the Schwinger boson approach to investigate the effect of spatial correlations on the Kondo lattice and introduced the concept of a nonlocal Kondo effect. They predicted a global phase diagram containing a non-Fermi liquid quantum critical phase and partially enlarged electron Fermi surface, explaining experimental phenomena and providing a unified understanding of heavy-fermion quantum criticality.
