Continuous evaluation of the spatial representativeness of land surface temperature validation sites

Summary: Spatial representativeness of ground sites is essential for the validation of satellite retrieved land surface temperature (LST) products. A temporal variation method (TVM) is proposed to evaluate the spatial representativeness of sites, using a spatial representativeness indicator (SRI) based on LST differences. Results show high correlation between temporally continuous SRI and original SRI, with variations mainly influenced by surface coverage changes and weather conditions. The method can be applied to other LST products and surface parameters to address spatial scale mismatch in validation.
