Self-calcifying lipid nanocarrier for bone tissue engineering

Poowadon Chaiin et al.

Summary: A nanoemulsion with specific surface properties can initiate the deposition of calcium phosphate on its surface, leading to formation of CaP nanoparticles with a lipid core. The lipid core can carry lipophilic compounds based on the function of the nanoemulsion, allowing for a dual purpose nanoemulsion of lipid nanoparticles exhibiting self-calcifying and carrier abilities.

Metformin attenuates hyperlipidaemia-associated vascular calcification through anti-ferroptotic effects

Wen-Qi Ma et al.

Summary: The research showed that Met inhibits hyperlipidaemia-associated calcium deposition in the rat aortic tissue. In vitro, treatment of VSMCs with PA stimulates ferroptosis concomitant with increased calcium deposition in VSMCs, while pretreatment with Met attenuates these effects. This study suggests that targeting POSTN in VSMCs may provide a new strategy for vascular calcification prevention or treatment.

Emerging roles of fibroblasts in cardiovascular calcification

Wudi Li et al.

Summary: Cardiovascular calcification is a complex pathophysiological process associated with poor prognosis, with the etiology still unclear. Fibroblasts play important roles in the calcification of vasculature, valve, and heart, but further research is needed to understand their phenotypic switching mechanisms and contributions during the calcification process.

Bioinformatics features and immunogenic epitopes of Echinococcus granulosus Myophilin as a promising target for vaccination against cystic echinococcosis

Morteza Shams et al.

Summary: This study aimed to predict the primary biochemical characteristics of EgMyophilin and its potential B-cell and human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-binding epitopes as a promising vaccine candidate against cystic echinococcosis (CE). Various bioinformatics tools were utilized to analyze the physico-chemical, antigenic, and allergenic profiles, as well as structural features of the protein. The results suggest the potential of EgMyophilin as a suitable antigen for the development of a vaccine against CE.
