Testosterone therapy and cardiovascular diseases

Antonio Cittadini et al.

Summary: Testosterone plays an important role in cardiovascular diseases, and low serum testosterone levels are a risk factor for various diseases. The widespread use of testosterone replacement therapy is controversial. Recent findings suggest that heart failure and type 2 diabetes mellitus may be potential targets for testosterone therapy.

Improving exercise capacity and quality of life using non-invasive heart failure treatments: evidence from clinical trials

Stephan von Haehling et al.

Summary: The focus of large-scale trials in chronic heart failure has been on evaluating treatments in terms of hospitalizations and mortality, but improving exercise capacity and quality of life for patients with heart failure is also important. Current evidence shows limited effects of treatments on exercise capacity and quality of life, with further studies needed to better understand the effectiveness of these interventions.

Testosterone reduces metabolic brown fat activity in male mice

Marta Lantero Rodriguez et al.

Summary: Testosterone acts as a negative regulator of metabolic BAT activity in male mice, modulating BAT activity through an indirect pathway. Castration promotes the expression of thermogenic markers, decreases lipid content, and increases fatty acid uptake in BAT. BAT-specific AR deficiency and AR agonist treatment do not affect BAT activity, indicating that androgens do not directly modulate BAT activity via the AR pathway.
