Multifunctional Silica-Modified Hybrid Microgels Templated from Inverse Pickering Emulsions

Yunxing Li et al.

Summary: This study presents an efficient method for hybridizing poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) microgels with hydrophobic silica nanoparticles, resulting in hybrid microgels with switchable surface wettability. The coated nanoparticles solve the issue of particle aggregation and film formation during drying, providing an advantage in dried storage. Additionally, the introduction of hydrophobic silica nanoparticles allows for various applications, including cargo encapsulation, active release induced by emulsion reversion, and trace water absorption.

Hyperporous magnetic catalyst foam for highly efficient and stable adsorption and reduction of aqueous organic contaminants

Yu Yang et al.

Summary: A nickel-coated hyperporous polymer foam (Ni-HPF) was designed and fabricated with hierarchical multiscale porous structures and abundant catalytical interfaces, showing high conversion efficiency and rapid reaction rate for treating organic 4-nitrophenol pollutants. The magnetic catalyst also demonstrated excellent recoverability and reproducibility, indicating potential applications in water purification, chemical catalysis, and energy storage devices.

pH-responsive pickering foam created from self-aggregate polymer using dynamic covalent bond

Yiqian Xie et al.

Summary: The study found that the foamability of responsive surfactant systems based on dynamic covalent bonds can be improved by introducing the Pickering effect, which depends on the control of hydrophobicity and aggregation behavior of polymers by the dynamic bonds. Experiments showed that the reversible and responsive foaming in the system is achieved through the continuous formation and breakage of dynamic bonds.

Nanostructure and thermoresponsiveness of poly(N-isopropyl methacrylamide)-based hydrogel microspheres prepared via aqueous free radical precipitation polymerization

Yuichiro Nishizawa et al.

Summary: In this study, the nanostructure and thermoresponsiveness of pNIPMAm microgels were evaluated using temperature-controllable high-speed atomic force microscopy, revealing a peculiar heterogeneous structure and the impact of adsorption concentration on their thermoresponsiveness. These findings are expected to advance the design of new materials such as thermoresponsive nanosheets and stimuli-responsive coatings.
