CdS Quantum Dots in Hierarchical Mesoporous Silica Templated on Clay Nanotubes: Implications for Photocatalytic Hydrogen Production

Anna Stavitskaya et al.

Summary: In this study, a scalable and efficient photocatalyst for sustainable hydrogen production was developed using clay nanotube-templated mesoporous silica and CdS quantum dots. By optimizing the CdS and cocatalyst (Ru) concentration, an efficient visible light photocatalyst was obtained for hydrogen production. The hierarchical structure and presence of Al in the photocatalyst led to improved catalytic activity compared to MCM-41, showing almost 100% efficiency of the catalytically active phase.

Synthesis of CdS with chitosan for photodegradation to rhodamine B

Wenjin Yue et al.

Summary: Chitosan as an additive influences the morphology of CdS nanocrystals during synthesis; CdS shows good absorption in the visible region and can be utilized in the photodegradation of rhodamine B; The maximum photodegradation efficiency reaches up to 97% with a constant rate of 0.03 s(-1), attributed to the maximum charge separation efficiency.

Construction of Zn(II)/Cd(II)-Yb(III) Schiff Base Complexes for the NIR Luminescent Sensing of Fluoroquinolone Antibiotics

Mengyu Niu et al.

Summary: In this study, two NIR luminescent Zn(II)/Cd(II)-Yb(III) complexes were synthesized using a Schiff base ligand with a binaphthyl backbone. The Cd(II)-Yb(III) complex 2, with a triangular structure, showed interesting luminescent sensing activity towards antibiotics CPFX and NFX, unaffected by the presence of other antibiotics tested.

Coupling the fluorescence and adsorptive properties of biomass-based cellulose-CdS nanocomposite for the alleviation of water contaminants

Komal et al.

Summary: A biomass-driven nanocomposite comprising cellulose nanofibers and cadmium sulfide was developed for fluorescence sensing and adsorption of water toxicants, exhibiting advantageous structural features. The nanocomposite showed exceptional enhancement in fluorescence intensity for fluoroquinolones, and demonstrated high adsorption capacities for cationic textile dyes and insecticide. Langmuir isotherm and pseudo-second-order kinetics provided best fits for the adsorption process. This multifaceted composite may contribute to sustainable nanomaterials for environmental protection.

Effect of dopant concentration and the role of ZnS shell on optical properties of Sm3+ doped CdS quantum dots

N. D. Vinh et al.

Summary: The role of samarium (Sm) dopant on the structural, morphological, and optical properties of CdS quantum dots and CdS/ZnS core/shell quantum dots was studied. The incorporation of Sm did not significantly affect the size and morphology of CdS quantum dots, while the ZnS shell increased particle size. The luminescent properties of Sm-doped quantum dots showed potential applications in white LEDs, biomarkers, and photocatalysis.
