Metal-ligand cooperative approaches in homogeneous catalysis using transition metal complex catalysts of redox noninnocent ligands

Rakesh Mondal et al.

Summary: Catalysis provides a simple way to prepare valuable molecules from readily available raw materials, mostly involving multi-electron transformations. Expensive heavy metal catalysts need to be replaced by affordable 3d metals for sustainable development. Metal-ligand cooperative approaches using transition metal complexes show promise in allowing interesting chemical transformations while using 3d metals for multi-electron transfers.

Summary: A series of novel dioxolene cobalt complexes with various ligands have been synthesized and characterized. The molecular structures of the complexes with dipyridine ligands have been determined by X-Ray structural analysis. Magnetic susceptibility measurements reveal solid-state valence-tautomeric transformation, and the associated phase transitions have been investigated by differential scanning calorimetry.

Summary: Three square planar nickel (II) complexes of a new asymmetric tetradentate redox-active ligand H3L2 in its deprotonated form have been synthesized, and their electronic states and properties have been characterized. The experimental results are rationalized by density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The UV-VIS-NIR spectra and magnetic measurements provide insights into the electronic transitions and magnetic behaviors of the complexes.

Intramolecular Charge Transfer in Ruthenium Complexes [Ru(acac)2(ciq)] with Ambidentate Camphoriminoquinone (ciq) Ligands

Vasileios Filippou et al.

Summary: The reaction of [Ru(acac)(2)(MeCN)(2)] with N-phenylcamphoriminoquinone (pciq) or N-(2-thiomethylphenyl)-camphoriminoquinone (tciq) resulted in the formation of complexes with N,O or N,S coordination and E or Z configuration at the C=N bond. Structural data and DFT calculations were used to assign oxidation states, and spectroelectrochemistry confirmed reversible oxidation of the complex ions [Ru-III(acac)(2)(pciq)](+) and [Ru-III(acac)(2)(tciq)](+).

Molecular and Electronic Structures and Single-Molecule Magnet Behavior of Tris(thioether)-Iron Complexes Containing Redox-Active α-Diimine Ligands

Peng Wang et al.

Summary: Incorporating radical ligands into metal complexes is a growing trend in the design of single-molecule magnets. The described mononuclear transition metal SMMs feature high-spin iron(II) complexes with antiferromagnetically coupled alpha-diiminato radical ligands. Experimental and theoretical studies indicate that these complexes exhibit slow magnetic relaxation behavior with a strong magnetic exchange coupling.
