Hijacking of the host cell Golgi by Plasmodium berghei liver stage parasites

Mariana De Niz et al.

Summary: The liver stage Plasmodium parasite targets and manipulates host cell Golgi to enhance surface interactions with the parasitophorous vacuolar membrane, optimizing its intracellular development. Interference with host cell Golgi-linked vesicular machinery leads to developmental delay and decreased survival of the parasite. Rabila is critical for inducing Golgi fragmentation and optimal pre-erythrocytic development of the parasite.
