Neutron-Mirror Neutron Oscillations in Absorbing Matter

Yuri Kamyshkov et al.

Summary: The possibility of a neutron transforming into a hidden sector particle remains intriguingly open. Theoretical models propose that the hidden sector can be represented by a mirror sector, where the neutron n can oscillate into its nearly identical mirror twin n'. These oscillations can occur in vacuum or in an environment with regular matter and a magnetic field.

Broadband Solenoidal Haloscope for Terahertz Axion Detection

Jesse Liu et al.

Summary: We introduce the Broadband Reflector Experiment for Axion Detection (BREAD) conceptual design and science program, which plans to search for bosonic dark matter. BREAD proposes a cylindrical metal barrel to convert dark matter into photons and focuses them onto a photosensor using a novel parabolic reflector design. By conducting a pilot 0.7 m(2) barrel experiment, BREAD is expected to surpass existing dark photon coupling constraints and improve sensitivity.

A Search for Neutron to Mirror Neutron Oscillation Using Neutron Electric Dipole Moment Measurements

Prajwal Mohanmurthy et al.

Summary: Baryon number violation is important for baryogenesis. The existence of mirror particles could lead to oscillation between neutrons and mirror-neutrons. Recent analysis of experiments searching for oscillation have found anomalies that could indicate the detection of neutron-mirror-neutron oscillation.

Theoretical Constraints on Neutron-Mirror-Neutron Oscillation

Kaladi S. Babu et al.

Summary: The paper investigates the consistency of observable n - n' oscillations signal with asymmetric inflation and derives various theoretical constraints. The results show that the reheat temperature after inflation should be below 2.5 TeV, and a singlet fermion with a mass below 100 GeV is predicted.

Improved Search for Neutron to Mirror-Neutron Oscillations in the Presence of Mirror Magnetic Fields with a Dedicated Apparatus at the PSI UCN Source

Nicholas J. Ayres et al.

Summary: The Paul Scherrer Institut (PSI) is conducting a new study on neutron to mirror-neutron oscillations using stored ultracold neutrons. The experiment features a large storage vessel to enhance statistical sensitivity. With the demonstrated performance, the study aims to detect or exclude potential signals consistent with neutron to mirror-neutron oscillations.

Antistars or Antimatter Cores in Mirror Neutron Stars?

Zurab Berezhiani

Summary: This article discusses the oscillation of neutron n into mirror neutron n ' and the transformation of an ordinary neutron star into a mixed star, as well as the potential implications of the reverse process occurring in mirror neutron stars, particularly in relation to baryon asymmetry. It also highlights the presence of antimatter in mirror neutron stars and the potential pathways for its production.

Neutron-Mirror-Neutron Oscillation and Neutron Star Cooling

Itzhak Goldman et al.

Summary: A recent paper pointed out that the observed cooling rate of old, cold neutron stars can provide an upper limit on the transition rate of neutron to mirror neutron. However, the presence of beta decay and fast mirror bremsstrahlung may relax this bound.

Neutron-mirror neutron mixing and neutron stars

Zurab Berezhiani et al.

Summary: The study examines the oscillation of neutrons into mirror neutrons and its impact on the structure of mixed stars, with transitions suppressed in quark stars. It also evaluates transition rates in neutron stars and discusses implications for the gravitational waves and associated electromagnetic signals from neutron star mergers. Findings suggest potential differences in radii among mixed stars of the same mass due to age differences.

A search for neutron to mirror-neutron oscillations using the nEDM apparatus at PSI

C. Abel et al.

Summary: Researchers proposed the existence of mirror copies of standard model particles, and experiments have provided evidence to support this hypothesis. By studying neutron to mirror-neutron oscillations, they have imposed constraints on theoretical parameters and detected anomalous signals, potentially indicating the existence of oscillations between neutrons and mirror-neutrons.

Heat blanketing envelopes of neutron stars

M. V. Beznogov et al.

Summary: This passage discusses the impact of a heat blanketing envelope near the surface of neutron stars on their internal structure, as well as the challenges of determining physical parameters and detailing models. The physical properties of the envelopes, including equation of state, thermal conduction, and ion diffusion, are outlined. The effects of magnetic fields and high temperatures on the envelopes are discussed, along with the ability to infer important information about the internal structure of neutron stars from observations.

New high-sensitivity searches for neutrons converting into antineutrons and/or sterile neutrons at the HIBEAM/NNBAR experiment at the European Spallation Source

A. Addazi et al.

Summary: The HIBEAM/NNBAR program is a proposed two-stage experiment at the European Spallation Source to search for baryon number violation, aiming to discover and characterize mixing in the neutron, antineutron, and sterile neutron sectors. This experiment addresses open questions related to baryogenesis, dark matter, and new physics scales, and has the potential to significantly increase sensitivity in neutron conversion probability tests.

Summary: Mirror sectors offer a new approach to investigating neutron-mirror neutron interactions, with neutron star temperatures serving as a powerful probe. The heating mechanism caused by the conversion of neutrons to mirror neutrons in neutron stars provides constraints on the strength of neutron-mirror-neutron mixing and offers a promising target for future telescope observations.
