Interstitial Water Improves Structural Stability of Iron Hexacyanoferrate for High-Performance Sodium-Ion Batteries

Jianwei Hu et al.

Summary: In this study, low-vacancy iron hexacyanoferrate with different interstitial water contents was successfully synthesized through the citric acid-assisted method. Experiments revealed that the interstitial water can stably exist in the Prussian blue framework, reducing the volume change during the Na+ insertion/extraction process and improving the cycling stability. This work provides guidance for the precise synthesis of high-performance PBAs.

Archimedean polyhedron LiCoO2 for ultrafast rechargeable Li-ion batteries

Fengchu Zhang et al.

Summary: The study successfully synthesized ACO-LiCoO2 cathode material with abundant twin boundaries, showing outstanding rate capability. Coherent twin boundaries not only enhance electrical conductivity by introducing Co-3dz2 orbitals in the forbidden band, but also provide new migration pathways for faster Li-ion diffusion, compared to commercial LiCoO2. This TB-rich ACO-LiCoO2 material may lead to the development of ultrafast rechargeable Li-ion batteries.

A vacancy-free sodium manganese hexacyanoferrate as cathode for sodium-ion battery by high-salt-concentration preparation

Zhuo-Er Yu et al.

Summary: Sodium manganese hexacyanoferrate (MnPBA) is being studied as a potential cathode material for sodium-ion batteries due to its high capacity, open framework, and low cost. However, issues such as high vacancy concentration, structural water, and nano-scale particles can hinder practical applications. By investigating the effects of coprecipitation under high-salt-concentration solutions, researchers were able to prepare vacancy-free MnPBA with micro-spherical particles, achieving high yield and theoretical reversible capacity. Further research on crystallinity, thermal stability, and water storage mechanisms in MnPBAs could lead to improved commercial applications in large-scale energy storage systems.

Iron scrap, a sustainable reducing agent for waste lithium ions batteries leaching: An environmentally friendly method to treating waste with waste

Sina Ghassa et al.

Summary: This paper presents the use of iron scrap as a sustainable, economic, and efficient reducing agent for leaching cobalt, nickel, and lithium from waste lithium ion batteries. The study investigated the effect of iron scrap concentration, solid content, and reaction time on the leaching process, achieving the highest cobalt, nickel, and lithium recovery rates under specific conditions. Iron was efficiently removed from the pregnant leach solution at pH=4, and cobalt and nickel were recovered using the cementation method with zinc scrap, producing a mixture free of manganese, lithium, and iron impurities.
