Intermediate stabilization for tuning photocatalytic selective oxidation of CH4 to CH3OH over Co3O4/ZnO

Zhen Xiao et al.

Summary: Artificial photocatalysis is a promising method for selective conversion of CH4 to CH3OH, but the over-oxidization by active oxygen radicals hinders its efficiency. In this study, a strategy of transferring key intermediates for stability was proposed. A Co3O4/ZnO composite photocatalyst effectively converted CH4 to CH3OH under simulated sunlight irradiation, while pure ZnO only over-oxidized CH4 into CO2. Co(3)O(4) was found to play a crucial role in adsorbing .CH3 key intermediates and desorbing CH3OH to suppress CH4 over-oxidation on the ZnO surface.

Selective oxidation of methane to methanol and methyl hydroperoxide over palladium modified MoO3 photocatalyst under ambient conditions

Songmei Sun et al.

Summary: Selective partial oxidation of methane to valuable oxygenated products is challenging, as over oxidation to COx often occurs. In this study, a Pd/MoO3 photocatalyst was developed to achieve excellent methane oxidation to methanol and methyl hydroperoxide using in situ generated H2O2 under simulated solar light. The results demonstrate high selectivity and productivity, with PdO species playing a crucial role in suppressing over oxidation.

Unprecedentedly high efficiency for photocatalytic conversion of methane to methanol over Au-Pd/TiO2 - what is the role of each component in the system?

Xiaojiao Cai et al.

Summary: This study presents a method for direct conversion of methane to methanol using Au-Pd/TiO2 as catalyst, achieving high methanol yield under light irradiation. The high efficiency is attributed to factors such as affinity between nanoparticles and intermediates, photothermal effect, mild oxidant O-2, and effective dissolution of methanol in water. Additionally, thermo-photo catalysis is demonstrated for the first time by utilizing different light sources for distinct roles in catalyzing the redox reactions.
