Spectrally multimode integrated SU(1,1) interferometer

A. Ferreri et al.

Summary: Nonlinear SU(1,1) interferometers are promising tools for spectral engineering and precise measurements with high phase sensitivity. This work theoretically realized an integrated architecture of a multimode SU(1,1) interferometer and demonstrated almost perfect destructive interference at the output with supersensitivity regions below the classical limit, utilizing a potassium titanyl phosphate (KTP) platform. The research also discussed the fundamental differences between single-mode and highly multimode SU(1,1) interferometers in terms of phase sensitivity and explored strategies to improve phase sensitivity.

Quantum optical coherence: From linear to nonlinear interferometers

Kai-Hong Luo et al.

Summary: Interferometers provide a highly sensitive means to investigate and exploit the coherence properties of light in metrology applications. This paper introduces a classification scheme based on the number of involved nonlinear elements and discusses theoretical predictions and experimental results related to single-photon and photon-pair input states. The experimental design presented in the paper proves to be useful in gaining insight into the properties of interferometeric setups containing different degrees of nonlinearity.

Master-equation treatment of nonlinear optomechanical systems with optical loss

Sofia Qvarfort et al.

Summary: This study derives a solution to the Lindblad master equation that models optical decoherence for a system evolving with the nonlinear optomechanical Hamiltonian, combining a Lie-algebra solution to the unitary dynamics with a vectorization of the Lindblad equation. The method is demonstrated to be applicable by considering the preparation of optical cat states via the optomechanical nonlinearity in the presence of optical loss, providing a direct way to analytically assess the impact of optical decoherence on the optomechanical intracavity state.

Optimal estimation of time-dependent gravitational fields with quantum optomechanical systems

Sofia Qvarfort et al.

Summary: We study the fundamental sensitivity achievable with an ideal optomechanical system in the nonlinear regime for measurements of time-dependent gravitational fields. By using recently developed methods to solve the dynamics of a nonlinear optomechanical system with a time-dependent Hamiltonian, we compute the quantum Fisher information for linear displacements of the mechanical element due to gravity, and demonstrate that the sensitivity can be further enhanced by injecting squeezed states of the cavity field and modulating the light-matter coupling of the optomechanical system. Specifically applied to the measurement of gravitational fields from small oscillating masses, the study shows that the gravitational field of an oscillating nanogram mass can be detected based on experimental parameters likely to be accessible in the near-term future.
