Research on the Influence of Tip Clearance of Axial-Flow Pump on Energy Characteristics under Pump and Turbine Conditions

Yanjun Li et al.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of tip clearance on the performance and energy dissipation of an axial-flow pump and the pump used as a turbine. Four different tip radial clearance schemes (0, 0.2, 1, and 2 mm) were designed for an axial-flow pump model, and unsteady calculation simulations were performed using CFD technology. The results show that increasing the blade tip clearance decreases the hydraulic performance of both the pump and the turbine. The change in tip clearance also significantly affects the total dissipation of the impeller, guide vane, and outlet passage.

Effect of Blade Thickness on Internal Flow and Performance of a Plastic Centrifugal Pump

Zhenfa Xu et al.

Summary: Blade thickness is a crucial parameter that significantly affects the performance of the impeller in a pump. This study investigates the impact of blade thickness on the internal flow and performance of a plastic centrifugal pump using numerical methods. The results reveal that, for certain blade profiles, exceeding a certain blade thickness leads to a rapid decrease in pump head and efficiency. Thus, selecting an appropriate blade thickness is essential for designing and improving the performance of plastic centrifugal pumps.

Z. Bibak et al.

Summary: The study investigated the dynamics of non-spherical particles compared to spherical particles using a combination of physical and DEM modeling approaches. The simulation results showed significant differences in particle movement, structure, and participation in high energy impact actions between cubical and spherical particles. The computation time of the simulation increased by 35 times when particles changed from spherical to cubical shape.

Influence of pulse-jet cleaning interval on performance of compact dust collector with pleated filter

Kazuki Furumoto et al.

Summary: The study investigated the impact of pulse-jet cleaning interval on the filtration performance of a pleated filter, finding that the effective filtration area decreased over time regardless of the interval length. Increasing the interval could help suppress the reduction in effective filtration area. The resistance coefficient of the filter media increased with decreasing pulse-jet interval, which in turn improved total dust collection efficiency.

Numerical and experimental investigation of utilizing the porous media model for windbreaks CFD simulation

Ahmed Osama Mahgoub et al.

Summary: This research examines the use of CFD porous media model to study perforated windbreaks through experiments and numerical simulation. By conducting experiments and analyzing simulations on windbreaks of different porosity ratios, a correlation between windbreak porosity and the coefficients needed for the CFD model was determined. A comparison between experimental and simulated results revealed an average error of approximately 10.5% for velocity and 12% for pressure drop values obtained from the porous media model, as compared to the exact geometry CFD results.
