Design of functional glycerol-based deep eutectic solvents as reaction media for enzymatic deacidification of high-acid rice bran oil

Shuting Li et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the use of glycerol-based deep eutectic solvents (DES) and lipases for enzymatic esterification of high-acid rice bran oil (HRBO), achieving a deacidification efficiency of 92.38% under optimized conditions. Molecular docking simulation showed that Novozym 435 had better performance compared to Lipozyme TL IM and Lipozyme RM IM. Furthermore, important components like gamma-oryzanols, tocopherols and tocotrienols were retained during the deacidification process.

Deacidification of high-acid rice bran oil by the tandem continuous-flow enzymatic reactors

Liujia Xu et al.

Summary: Tandem continuous-flow reactors were developed for enzymatic deacidification of rice bran oil (RBO) and simultaneous production of functional oils. The immobilized Candida antarctica lipase B (CALB) on hydrophobic ordered mesoporous silicon (OMS-C-18) showed significantly increased catalytic activity and temperature tolerance compared to Novozym 435. The tandem continuous-flow enzymatic reactors effectively removed free fatty acid and increased the content of phytosterol ester and diacylglycerol in RBO, while retaining a higher percentage of gamma-oryzanol compared to traditional alkali refining.

Stability of β-D-galactosidase immobilized in polysaccharide-based hydrogels

Mariane Wolf et al.

Summary: The stability of beta-D-galactosidase immobilized in Arabic gum-based and chitosan-based hydrogels during lactose hydrolysis reactions was investigated. The freeze-dried hydrogel was more suitable for enzyme immobilization, with chitosan-based hydrogel showing higher immobilization capacity. The immobilized enzyme in both hydrogels exhibited better stability in acidic media compared to the free enzyme, an advantage for their application.
